Blackburn Rovers vs Barnsley Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game will have important implications at the bottom of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Blackburn have dominated recent meetings between the pair with four wins, two draws and just one defeat from their last seven clashes. That Barnsley victory came in the reverse fixture on Boxing Day at Oakwell. The Tykes won 2-0 that day with a goal each from Sam Winnall and Marley Watkins in a game that also saw Rovers have Darragh Lenihan dismissed. It is now six without a win for the Lancashire side and two straight defeats as they went down 3-1 to Reading on Tuesday night. They were two down in thirty minutes but a 77th minute Elliott Bennett goal gave them hope only to concede just one minute later. The Yorkshire side drew their second consecutive game and the third in their last four as they were held 0-0 at home to Cardiff in midweek. They saw more of the ball and registered more shots on target but could not find a way past their stubborn Welsh opponents.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The prices take into account that Rovers need to win this game and Barnsley do not. I would not be backing Blackburn at such short odds so I am looking to some of the other markets for my bet instead. Adam Hammill carried the chief goal threat for Barnsley in midweek and looks the value here in the scorer selections against a team who have kept just two clean sheets in their last 12 games. Rovers need all three points so I imagine they will be going all out for the game in the second-half. It makes sense then to take the last 45 minutes to be the highest scoring ones as the home team need to win here.

Blackburn Preview

Two straight defeats and just four points from their last six means that Blackburn are in the bottom three. They are though just one point behind Bristol City in 21st and two behind Nottingham Forest in 20th with both of these teams still to play. It is five unbeaten at home in the league for Rovers with the last two draws and the three before that victories. In their ten home games against teams outside the top ten in the table they remain unbeaten. Five of their last six have gone over 2.5 goals with the same number seeing both teams score. At Ewood Park, it is different though with four of the last five going under 2.5 and three of these ending 1-0. Their last six fixtures have seen eight goals scored in the final 15 minutes of the tie.

Barnsley Preview

Four points from the last eight games means that the season has fallen off for Barnsley who at one stage had play-off aspirations. They sit 13th in the Championship table which they would have happily taken at the start of the season. On the road, it is three straight defeats for the Tykes though before that they were unbeaten in three. A lack of away goals is an issue with just five from their last seven games in all competitions. None of their last four matches have gone over 2.5 goals but seven of their last eight have featured exactly two or three goals. In four of their last six fixtures the second-half has been the highest scoring. Tom Bradshaw has scored three times in their last four away ties.
