Blackburn Rovers vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday early evening (17:30) fixture is live on SKYSPORTS and features two promotion hopefuls. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Blackburn will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season going down to a 4-1 loss at Bristol City.  Although the second best team the result was harsh on Rovers according to the expected goals data. Aston Villa are also looking to bounce back from a 4-1 defeat which they suffered at Sheffield United. Again this result was harsh on them as they were marginally just the weaker side of two. The last time these two sides met was in the 2016/17 with split results where the home team won both fixtures. In fact, it is now eight straight where the away side has not won their head-to-head meetings.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are having trouble splitting the pair but I feel Blackburn deserve more respect here and I will be backing them in the draw no bet market. Something does not feel right at Villa and pressure is growing on Steve Bruce and a visit to Ewood Park where Rovers have not lost a league game since September 2017 is not the ideal fixture. Bradley Dack is a key player for the Lancashire outfit and he is closing in on a return and as such he looks good value to add to his four in all competitions this season.

Blackburn Rovers Preview

Despite defeat last time it has been a solid start to the season for Rovers who have won two, drawn three and lost just one of their first six. They have nine points and sit in 13th with the expected goals data having them as high as second. At Ewood Park, it has been two draws from three and if you add it to the last time they were in this division just one defeat in 11 Championship matches. It has been goalless going into the break of all three in front of their own fans this season. Blackburn have seen three of their six go under 2.5 goals and three over though the three that went under also went under 1.5 goals. The Lancashire outfit have been behind just once going into the interval.

Blackburn Rovers Team News

Bradley Dack (bruised knee), Ben Gladwin (knee) and Jacob Davenport (hip) are all doubts while Dominic Samuel (knee) is out for the season.

Aston Villa Preview

Pressure is beginning to grow on Steve Bruce as Villa are four without a win and have won just twice this season. They sit in 12th place with nine points though the expected goals data would have them lower in 18th. Away from Villa Park, it has been a mixed bag with one win, one draw and a defeat from their three played. Both teams to score has happened in each of these fixtures for the Midlands outfit. Aston Villa matches average 3.67 goals per fixture which is the second highest in the division. They are slow starters and have yet to be ahead going into the break although five of these have been all-square.

Aston Villa Team News

Scott Hogan, Keinan Davis (both groin), Harry McKirdy (dislocated shoulder) are all doubts while Yannick Bolasie and Tammy Abraham are set to be brought into the first team. Jack Grealish should also be available for selection.
