Birmingham City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Monday evening (19:45) live SKYTV game will have an impact on both ends of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Birmingham come into the game on the back of a useful road point at Bramall Lane following a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United. The Blues took a 38th minute lead through Jeremie Boga but the Blades levelled in the 71st minute and neither side could find a winner. Wolves continued their strong form with a comfortable 5-1 victory over Bolton in a top versus bottom clash. Ivan Cavaleiro lead the way with a brace (one penalty) while Willy Boly, Leo Bonatini and Diego Jota all grabbed one each for the Black Country side. The two meetings last season were won by the away side with the Blues winning 2-1 at Molineux and Wanderers winning 3-1 at St Andrew’s. Both games also saw a red-card with Paul Robinson getting sent off at Molineux and Jack Storer at Molineux both of whom played for Birmingham.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think Wolves should win this game but the absence of Ruben Neves through suspension does make me want to be a little bit more cautious so I will resist the price in the match markets and look elsewhere for my bets. Given that Wolves have kept clean-sheets in three of their last four on the road and that Birmingham have failed to score in five of their last seven then I think backing the visitors not to concede looks worth a play. The Black Country outfit might take a bit of time to get going without Ruben Neves while the hosts will set up to frustrate so take no Wolves goal before 45:00 minutes.

Wolves to keep a clean-sheet

NO Wolves goal before 45:00.

Wolverhampton Wanderers saw over 1.5 goals in 7 out of their last 10 games played

Wolverhampton Wanderers have not conceded a goal in 60% of their last 10 games played against Birmingham City

Birmingham City Preview

It is now just one defeat in three for the Blues but a run of just one win in seven means they sat 21st going into the weekend and still in relegation trouble. They have a tricky pair of games upcoming but after that have three matches against bottom-half sides. At St Andrew’s, they are in good form with three victories, one draw and just one defeat from their last five. These matches have been low-scoring with four of the five going under 1.5 goals while the total scored at both ends has just been five. Five of the last seven goals netted in Birmingham fixtures have come in the first-half with three of them in the opening ten minutes. The Midlands outfit would be as high as 13th if the league was decided on the scorelines after just 45 minutes of the match.

Birmingham City Team News

Jason Lowe (hamstring) and Craig Gardner (calf) are doubts. Carl Jenkinson (dislocated shoulder) and Maxime Colin (hamstring) are out until December while Isaac Vassell (cruciate) may not play again this season

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

A run of five straight victories in which they have scored 15 times and conceded just two goals has seen Wolves go four points clear at the top going into the weekend fixtures. With just one of their next ten against a top eight side this winning run could extend on for quite a while. Away from Molinuex, they have won their last two though they have lost two of their last five with defeats at QPR and Sheffield United. Just one of their last five on the road has seen both teams score. 40% of the goals Wanderers have scored this season have come in the 15 minutes prior to half-time or full-time. Ivan Cavaleiro has four in the last three while Diogo Jota has netted in the last two.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Ruben Neves is missing through suspension while Carl Ikeme (cancer) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (hip) are long-term absentees.
