Birmingham City vs Stoke City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Boxing Day fixture (15:00) features two sides looking to break into the top six as they sit just outside. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Birmingham extended their unbeaten run to two with a 3-0 road success at the DW against Wigan last time out. Che Adams, Michael Morrison and Jacques Maghoma weighed in with one each as the Blues picked up a deserved three points.

Stoke are now ten matches unbeaten in the Championship following a 1-0 victory over Millwall. Saido Berahino got the only goal of the fixture to give the Potters an undeserved three points.

The reverse fixture came in mid-October at the BET365 Stadium and the Blues won that one 1-0. Che Adams got the only goal as they continued their fine recent head-to-head record which has saw them lose just one of the last 11.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I know Stoke are unbeaten in ten but I am shocked to see them favourites to win here at Birmingham. 23 fixtures in these two are level on points and look to be of similar ability throw in home advantage and it is the Blues who should be favourites.  I like the Blues with the game finishing all-square on my side so take the draw no bet.

Che Adams netted in the reverse fixture, netted last time out and with five in his last four at home looks the selection here to score at any time.

Birmingham City Preview

It has been a good start to the season for the Blues who sit in eighth halfway through the campaign. The expected goals data even feels they have been unlucky and would have them as high as fourth.

At St Andrew’s, the Midlands outfit have been strong losing just once through six of these have ended in draws. They have the sixth best ranked home attack and the joint-fifth best home defence.

With 35 goals Birmingham are the joint-sixth best attack in the division with Che Adams (11) and Lukas Jutkiewicz (ten) netting 21 of these between them. Their defence has been solid conceding a mid-level 21 times.

Birmingham City Team News

Isaac Vassell (hip) and David Davis (ankle) have returned to training and are closing in on returns. Marc Roberts (calf) is set to miss the next few weeks.

Stoke City Preview

The Potters have had a mixed start to the season after a poor first quarter, the second quarter has been much better and seen them ride to ninth. They are now three place and five points off the top six.

Away from the Bet365 Stadium, they are hard to beat losing just two of their 11 through seven of these have finished all-square. They are unbeaten in their last eight on the road with six of them ending in a draw.

Stoke have scored 30 times this season and over 50% of these goals (17) have come from three players, Benik Afobe (six), Tom Ince (six) and Joe Allen (five).  They have shipped 27 times with just eight conceded in the last 13.

Stoke City Team News

Erik Pieters (hamstring) and Tyrese Campbell (unknown) are doubts while Ibrahim Afellay (knee) is a long-term absentee.
