Birmingham City vs Rotherham United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the bottom eight of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Birmingham stretched their unbeaten run to seven league games with a sixth draw from these matches as they battled out a point at Brentford. Michael Morrison put them ahead but they were pegged back and then forced to play the last 24 minutes with ten-men as Maikel Keiftenbeld was dismissed but they held firm.

Rotherham also picked up a point in midweek as their good home form continued with a 0-0 home draw with Bristol City. The Robins were the better team and the expected goals data suggests the Millers got a little lucky to get something.

These two sides were in different divisions last season so you have to go back to the 2016/17 campaign for their last meeting. The Midlands outfit have lost just one of their last six against the team from Yorkshire.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Birmingham are a short price given they have won just one of their first 11 though granted Rotherham with injuries (they named just five subs in midweek) and a poor away record are not to be backed either.

I like chancing that the Millers can get to half-time level before the damage is done which is happened in three of their five road defeats this season. The lack of bench options will start to feel on United as the game goes on so look to those markets that favour a good City second-half. I like the Midlands outfit to score most of their goals in the second 45 minutes and the draw HT/Birmingham FT option.

Birmingham City Preview

The Blues have drawn a remarkable eight out of their first 11 fixtures winning on just one occasion. They sit in 18th place with 11 points though the expected goals data feels this is wrong and has them as high as sixth.

At St Andrew’s, it is five draws this season and no defeat in any of their last ten when adding in the last campaign. Three of their five in front of their own fans have seen both teams score the other two have ended goalless.

Seven of the 11 Birmingham have played and four of five when looking at homes have been level going into the break. The average time of their first goal scored is the 30th minute overall but as high as 43rd when just looking at home matches.

Birmingham City Team News

Craig Gardner (knock) is a doubt while David Davis (ankle) and Isaac Vassell (thigh) are long-term absentees  Maikel Kieftenbeld will miss the first of his two games through suspension.

Rotherham United Preview

The Millers are a contrasting side with 11 points at home and none on the road though unfortunately for them this is an away fixture. They sit 19th in the league and would have taken that at the start of the season.

Away from the New York Stadium, it has been five played five lost with one goal scored and 11 conceded. That goal came in their opening match so that means it is four without a goal on the road.

Seven of the 11 that Rotherham have played this campaign have been level going into the break. The average time of their first goal conceded is in the 46th minute with the average time of first goal scored the 54th minute.

Rotherham United Team News

Richard Wood, Jamie Proctor (both groin), Kyle Vassell (knee) Clark Robertson (groin) are all doubts while Darren Potter (Achilles) and Sean Raggett (back) will not be back before Christmas.
