Birmingham City vs Reading Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game from St Andrew’s features two sides who have made slow starts to the Championship season.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Birmingham suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Pirelli Stadium to Burton despite taking the lead through Jacques Maghoma. In the League Cup, they went down 2-1 at home to Bournemouth despite taking an early lead through Maikel Kieftenbeld.

Reading also lost out in their last league match going down 1-0 to Preston in a game they struggled to create a scoring chance. In midweek, they came through 3-1 against Millwall following extra-time with a goal each from Leandro Bacuna, George Evans and Sam Smith.

The two meetings between the pair last season were low-scoring and produced a total of just one goal. It finished 0-0 at the Madejski Stadium and 1-0 to the visitors in the same fixture last season thanks to a John Swift goal.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The match prices on offer with look about fair on two sides with similar starts with slight leaning towards Birmingham with home advantage so this does not look an area to get involved with.

Neither side are blessed with a goalscorer so I considered going under on the goals but bookmakers are wise to this.  You can still use this as an area into the game but instead go against the time of the first team goal. The first Blues goals is set before 52:00 minute and 67:00 for the Royals and this looks worth opposing.

NO Birmingham goal before 52:00

NO Reading goal before 67:00

Birmingham City Preview

It has been one win, two draws and one defeat from their opening four Championship encounters for Birmingham.  Their next five games all feature sides who finished in the top-half of the table last season.

At home, it is three without defeat though before that tey did go on a run of five defeats from six in front of their own fans.  These games tend to be low scoring with their last seven producing a total of just ten goals.

The Blues have bagged just three goals this season in the league with two coming from Jacques Maghoma and one from Craig Gardner.  The Midlands side can take heart from the return from injury of Lukas Jutiewicz who played up front last time out and registered four shots in the game one of which was on target.

Birmingham City Team News

Michael Morrison (nose) is a doubt as is Che Adams (hamstring) while Cheick Keita (groin) is unlikely to play any part.

Reading Preview

From their last four games Reading have an identical sequence of results with one win, two draws and a defeat. This is the first of three games in a row against sides who finished in the bottom-half of the division last season.

On the road, the Royals have lost each of their last two in the league and if you add in the play-offs are four away matches without victory. They need to find their scoring form from last season where they netted 11 times in their last five regular season fixtures.

The Berkshire side have netted just three league goals this season one each for Mo Barrow and Liam Kelly plus an own-goal. Mo Barrow and substitute George Evans carried their attacking threat last time out with two shots each.

Reading Team News

Callum Harriott (hamstring) could return but there are doubts over Jon Dadi Bodvarsson (knee), Liam Kelly, John Swift (both unknown) and Tennai Watson (hip). Influential forward Yann Kermorgant will miss another few months with a hip problem
