Birmingham City vs Queens Park Rangers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides who are in needs in points at the bottom end of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Birmingham made it back-to-back defeats as they went down 1-0 to Fulham at Craven Cottage last time out. The Blues were perhaps a little unlucky not to net themselves but can have a few complaints about the result as the hosts looked the stronger side. QPR boss Ian Holloway got his wish as fans stayed late in their home game with Leeds only to see the visitors net a third and decisive goal as they came out on top 3-1. Pawel Wszolek got the only strike of the game for the Rs which proved of limited consolation in the loss. The two meetings between these sides saw a 1-1 draw at Loftus Road and the game at St Andrew’s saw the Rs emerge as 4-1 victors with the goals shared around the team.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are having a hard time splitting the pair with Birmingham marginal favourites because of home advantage. The prices though probably do not give the home advantage enjoyed by the Blues enough weight given that they have won three of six at home of late and beaten better sides than QPR (Cardiff, Forest and Wednesday). Have a little interest on the hosts to come out on top here. The London outfit have failed to score in their last three on the road while all the Midlands team victories have come by the same 1-0 scoreline so this looks worth a little bet also.

Birmingham City Preview

It is just now just one point from their last four fixtures for the Blues who sit in the bottom three and six behind their opponents here. They need to pick up points with their next two meetings coming against teams in the bottom six. At St Andrew’s, it has been a mixed bag lately with two victories, one draw and two defeats from their last five matches. These games have been low scoring with a total of just six netted at both ends in their last six in front of their own fans. Not one of the last six fixtures involving Birmingham have been goalless at half-time and five of these have seen a goal in the opening 15 minutes. No player for the Midlands outfit has found the net more than twice in the league which is a real problem.

Birmingham City Team News

Harlee Dean will return after suspension while Jason Lowe (hamstring), Tomas Kuszczak (groin) and Craig Gardner (calf) are doubts. Carl Jenkinson (dislocated shoulder) and Maxime Colin (hamstring) are out until the end of December while Isaac Vassell (cruciate) may not play again this season.

Queens Park Rangers Preview

It is now just two points from their last six fixtures for QPR who have dropped down to 19th in the league table. They are six points above the relegation places and two of their next four are against sides in the bottom eight. Away from Loftus Road, they are still yet to register a win with four draws and six defeats from their last ten games. They failed to score in their last three on their travels and netted just three in six. Four of their last have gone over 2.5 goals with three of these matches even going over the 3.5 goal margin. Nine of the last ten goals involving the Hoops have come in the second-half and six of these in the last ten minutes.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

The Rs have extensive injuries at the back with Joel Lynch (foot) and Darnell Furlong (sore knee) doubts while James Perch (both knee) are long-term absentees. Jamie Mackie will miss his second of three games through suspension but Alex Baptiste is available for selection.
