Birmingham City vs Preston North End Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Birmingham bounced back from a disappointing local derby defeat with a 2-0 road victory at Millwall in midweek. Michael Morrison and an own-goal saw them home in a game their opponents played 60 minutes with ten men.

Preston are now nine unbeaten following a midweek 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough thanks to an Alan Browne goal. It was a game that deserved to end all-square with the rare occurrence of it also being an exact tie on the expected goals data.

North-End are unbeaten in their last nine meetings with the Blues with four of their last six ending in a draw. Each of their last seven head-to-heads have seen both teams score with five going over 2.5 goals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Six of the nine Birmingham have played this season at their own ground have ended in a draw while three of the last four Preston have played on the road have done the same so taking the game to end all-square looks the sensible call.

Both sides to score has happened in the last five at St Andrew’s and with North-End having netted in each of their last five on the road this looks a way to enhance the draw and covers 1-1, 2-2 and all the way up to another 5-5 like Villa and Forest produced in midweek.

Birmingham City Preview

The Blues have been a mixed bag of late with two victories, two defeats and a draw from their last five. They sit tenth in the table and none of their next seven are against a team in the current top eight.

At St Andrew’s, they are unbeaten in nine this season winning three of their previous four in front of their own fans. Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals has paid in their last five at their own place.

Birmingham are producing a total of 2.68 goals per fixture with them being responsible for 1.42 goals. Che Adams has four in the last five while Lukas Jutkiewicz has three in these five games.

Birmingham City Team News

Jota (hip) is a doubt while Isaac Vassell (thigh) and David Davis (ankle) are long-term absentees.

Preston North End Preview

It is now nine unbeaten for North-End with five of these finishing all-square and four of them in victories. They have climbed away from the relegation zone and into 17th and three of their next five are against bottom-half sides.

Away from Deepdale, they are unbeaten in their last four with three of these finishing all-square. The Lancashire outfit have scored a combined total of eight goals from their last five on the road.

Preston are a great side for the neutrals with an average of 3.32 goals produced per fixture with the Lilywhites being responsible for 1.63 of these. Alan Browne has two in his last two while Callum Robinson has two in three.

Preston North End Team News

Callum Robinson (unknown) joins Calum Woods (hamstring), Billy Bodin and Josh Harrop (both cruciate) on the long-term injured list.
