Birmingham City vs Preston North End Match Prediction

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Birmingham continued their recent struggles as they went down 2-0 to Leeds at Elland Road on Tuesday night. The Blues saw more of the ball and had more shots on target but still could not find a way through against a strong defence. I thought Preston would be difficult opponents for Cardiff last time out but nobody saw them defeating the previously unbeaten side 3-0. Josh Harrop, Sean Maguire and Alan Browne all netted once to give them all three points. Preston are unbeaten in their last seven against Birmingham including taking four points off them last season. The game at Deepdale ended 2-1 and the game in the Midlands 2-2 with Che Adams netting in both fixtures.
Betting Tips and Predictions
This is a tricky game as if you take short-term view then the price on the visitors is tempting as they are in form against a side badly out of it. This game though reminds me a little of West Ham and Huddersfield in the Premier League last week. The truth is over a long-term run these are two mid-table Championship sides so the fact that Birmingham are outsiders at their own ground must be the value call. The price suggests siding with the Blues with the option to have the safety blanket of the draw no bet market. Neither of these two are firing in the goals so the under 2.5 goals is sensible though I would not put anyone off a bet on under 1.5 even considering the three Preston away ties so far have produced just one goal.

Birmingham City Preview
It is now four straight league defeats for Birmingham and while Harry Redknapp is preaching patience for his side to develop many fans are convinced he does not know what his best lineup is. They sit in 22nd place with just four points with this marking the first of five games they have at home in their next eight. At home, they have taken all four of their points with a victory over Bristol City, a draw with Bolton and a loss against Reading. Goals are in short supply in these matches with just five in total and the Blues failing to score in their last two. Jacques Maghoma is their only player to have scored more than once in the Championship this campaign. Four of their last five against Preston have gone over 2.5 with the one game that did not featuring two goals.
Birmingham City Team News
Carl Jenkinson (dislocated shoulder) is listed day-to-day while Isaac Vassell is out with a hamstring issue.
Preston North End Preview
It is now two victories and two draws from their last four for the Lillywhites which is remarkable considering these games were against Boro and Cardiff. They are in fifth place after seven games which few would have expected when manager Simon Grayson left in the summer and was replaced by Alex Neil. On the road, they have taken just two point from three fixtures though these have been tricky games at Derby, Middlesbrough, and Leeds. These matches have been low scoring with the draws ending 0-0 and the defeat coming 1-0. Sean Maguire is the only North-End player to have netted more than once in the Championship this season with two goals. Around 50% of the goals they have netted this season have come in the final 30 minutes.
Preston North End Team News
Gregory Cunningham (knee) is listed day-to-day
