Birmingham City vs Leeds United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday (30th) afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Birmingham remain rooted to the bottom of the table after losing 2-0 at home to Norwich on Boxing Day. The Blues created a few scoring chances but the Canaries were the better side on the day and things are looking worrying for them. Leeds won a fourth straight as they defeated Burton 2-1 at the Pirelli Stadium on December 26th. They were one down after an hour but netted two in four minutes (through Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe) to secure three points they probably did not deserve. The reverse fixture came in September and Leeds won that one 2-0 thanks to a goal each from Samuel Saiz and Stuart Dallas. It put to an end a head-to-head record that had seen the road team win the last four meetings.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given that Leeds have won each of their last four and Birmingham have lost four of their last five at home the price on offer for the visitors seems on the generous side. I would highly recommend getting with the visitors. The hosts have blanked in three of their last five at home while the visitors have kept clean sheets in two of their last three so backing the Yorkshire side to not concede a goal also looks a value bet.

Birmingham City Preview

It is now just two points from their last seven fixtures for the Blues who are bottom of the Championship table. They are two points behind their nearest rivals Bolton and three from Burton who sit in 21st place. At St Andrew’s, they have now lost three straight and four of their last five managing to score just two goals in this run. They have shipped seven times during these matches with just one of their last eight in front of their own fans going over 2.5 goals. Birmingham are not a team to watch for neutrals with the lowest goals average per game in the Championship with just 1.96 per fixture. If the league was decided on 45 minute scorelines they would be as high as 21st having been behind in just nine of 24 at the interval.

Birmingham City Team News

Sam Gallagher is available after suspension while Carl Jenkinson (dislocated shoulder), Tomas Kuszczak (groin), Jason Lowe and Che Adams (both hamstring) are doubts. Isaac Vassell (cruciate) may not play again this season.

Leeds United Preview

A run of five straight victories has moved Leeds into fifth and they are just five points behind Bristol City in second and in the mix for that second automatic promotion spot. They have a nice run of matches with tenth placed Ipswich their highest ranked opponent in their next five. Away from Elland Road, they have won three straight netting seven times in the process and conceding just two. Nine of their last ten on their travels have gone over 2.5 goals with three of their last five going over 3.5. Three of the last five United have played and eight of their last 11 have seen both teams find the back of the net. Their defence has been strong of late conceding just three times in their last six.

Leeds United Team News

Caleb Ekupan (foot) is out for a month while Stuart Dallas (ankle) and Samuel Saiz (calf) are doubts.
