Birmingham City vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Birmingham saw their four-game winning run and 11 without defeat come to an end as they lost 3-1 away at Derby. They had taken a tenth minute lead through Lukas Jutkiewicz but three goals in a 20 minute spell in the second-half undid them and handed the Rams a deserved three points.

Hull made it back-to-back victories with a 1-0 defeat of West Brom at the KC Stadium last time out. Frazier Campbell netted for a second successive game to give them a deserved three points.

The last five meetings between these sides have been won by the home side including both last season. Birmingham midfielder Jota grabbed a brace in this fixture last season a game the Blues won 3-0.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Birmingham have won each of their last three at home while Hull have lost five of their last six on the road so a home victory looks the obvious call here. It is true the Tigers have won back-to-back matches but these were against a poor Bolton side and an off-form West Brom while the Blues defeat at Derby is perfectly fine given the quality the Rams have.

Rotherham, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday have all netted here in recent times so the visitors could do the same (mostly likely through Frazier Campbell who has two in two) and backing a home win and both teams to score also appeals.

Birmingham City Preview

The Blues will hope to bounce back from defeat last time out that means they have lost one of their last 12. They sit tenth in the Championship table while the expected goals data has them a little higher in eighth.

At St Andrew’s, they are unbeaten in all seven this season winning each of the previous three. Each of the last five the Midlands outfit have played at their own ground have seen both teams net.

No side has been level more times going into half-time than Birmingham who have been tied in ten of their 16. Just six of the 17 they have conceded in the league have come in the opening 45 minutes.

Birmingham City Team News

Jacques Maghoma (ankle), Isaac Vassell (thigh) and David Davis (ankle) are long-term absentees.

Hull City Preview

Back-to-back victories for the Tigers have come at the right time for Nigel Adkins who was starting to feel a little pressure. They still are second-bottom though the expected goals data feels this is harsh and has them in 19th.

Away from the KC Stadium, they have lost five of their last six though they did win the previous one at Bolton. A lack of road goals is a real issue with them netting just two from their last six on the road.

Hull have found themselves behind just three times going into the break on the road from eight fixtures. Most of their goals have come in the first-half with eight of 13 having done so.

Hull City Team News

Evandro, Jon Toral, Angus MacDonald (all calf) and James Weir (meniscus) are all doubts.
