Birmingham City vs Fulham Match Prediction

By Charlotte Louise Bushell

Two of the sides in the top half of the Championship table will do battle on Saturday. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Reading were the latest side to defeat Birmingham in midweek as a solitary John Swift goal gave them a 1-0 victory in a game that was low on chances created.

Fulham defeated Burton 2-0 in midweek thanks to goals from Stefan Johansen and Scott Malone as they try to keep pace with the sides above them in the playoff race.

The home side has failed to win any of the last seven meetings between the pair including the reverse fixture in September which was won 1-0 by Birmingham thanks to a 49th minute Clayton Donaldson penalty.

Birmingham City Preview

December 13th was the last time that Birmingham won a game, and it has been a painful few months for their fans with their current 12th place a sign of how well they were doing as despite just three points from a possible 24 they are still in little danger of relegation.

Gianfranco Zola must find a way to get his side scoring as just they have netted just twice in their last five in the league and failed to fire in three of their last six at their own ground. Under 2.5 goals has been a feature of recent fixtures for the Midlands side with their last four not just going under but featuring a total of just five goals.

Lukas Jutkiewicz is one of the few bright lights in recent weeks, and if anyone is to find the net, it is likely to be him as he has done so in three of their last five at St Andrew’s Stadium.

Fulham Preview

Three wins, one draw and two defeats from their last six is good form from Fulham though at the rate the top teams are winning they will likely need to step up a further gear if they wish to end the season among the top six.

They have lost just one of their last five away games and know how to find the net having done so in six of their last seven on the road in the Championship. Each of their last four on their travels have been tight games with just six goals in total and all going under 2.5.

Chris Martin is the main source of goals for the London side with six in the last nine though he has netted just twice in the last six Fulham away ties. Stefan Johansen is another player to watch in the scorer markets having netted three in his last six and each of his last two games.

Birmingham Team News

Jacques Maghoma could come into the squad after his absence for the Africa Cup of Nations. The Blues might also include new signings Jerome Sinclair and Krystian Bielik.  Clayton Donaldson (heel) and Rhoys Wiggins (knee) are long-term absentees.

Fulham Team News

On loan, Gohi Cyriac could come straight into the matchday squad while Neeskens Kebano will be monitored after returning from the African Cup of Nations.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I like the look of Stefan Johansen to net in this game as he has done so in his last two. The Norwegian goes off at bigger prices than he should because Chris Martin leads the Fulham line. Martin though is an unselfish player whose best assist is his ability to bring others into the game. Stick with the hot hand here and take Johansen.

This will not be a game of many goals with Under 2.5 looking the way to play this as this has been the case in each of the last four for both teams.
