Birmingham City vs Bolton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) Championship fixture come from St Andrews and sees Birmingham entertain a Bolton side looking for their first win of the season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. The Blues registered their first league victory of the campaign last time out as they defeated Bristol City 2-1 coming back from going a goal down in the opening minute. Craig Gardener and Jacques Maghoma got their goals and they managed to survive a final ten-minute onslaught after having Maikel Kleftenbeld dismissed. Bolton got a point last time out as they drew 1-1 with Millwall at the Den but rode their luck a little as they saw less of the ball and created a lower number of chances. They had Filipe Morais to thank after a wonder free-kick secured them a point. It is the Midlands outfit who have dominated recent meetings between the pair coming out on top in each of their last three. Each of the last four battles have been low scoring and have finished 1-0.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I would not be rushing to back Birmingham at these prices especially with influential forward Che Adams an injury concern. I think you could make a case for Bolton and the draw in the double chance market if you wanted a match bet but I am happy to look elsewhere. Bolton looked happy to set up and frustrate Millwall last time out and I see no reason why they will not try the same here. The Blues probably lack the class to pile on the goals especially if Che Adams is injured this is the angle to attack. Under 1.5 Birmingham goals looks worth a play as does a small interest on the visitors keeping a clean sheet.

Birmingham City Preview

Their game with Bristol City last time out was a tale of three games, in the first-half City were on top, in the next thirty-five it was Birmingham and then for the last ten the Blues were hanging on with ten-men. They saw less of the ball in that game but created a lot more scoring chances. Two of their last three have gone over 2.5 goals and both teams scored in each of the ones that the game went over. Four of the last seven they have scored have come in the opening 45 minutes. Che Adams is the only Blues to have more than one goal this season after a hat-trick in the League Cup and he is a key player though the worry is he went off injured in the previous match. Midfielder Cheick N’Doye has been a presence from midfield and is averaging an impressive five shots per game.

Birmingham City Team News

Lukas Jutkiewicz (calf) is nearing a return while Che Adams (hamstring), David Davis (virus) and Jonathan Grounds (eye) are doubts. One player certain to miss the next few weeks is Cheick Keita with a groin problem.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

It was a first point for the season secured for Bolton though the result came somewhat against the run of play and was thanks to a wonder free-kick. They still need to find a goal from open play with two from set-pieces and one from a penalty. Wanderers have conceded the opening goal in each of their two league games and in their League Cup match also. They have lost just two of their last ten competitive road encounters. Adam Le Fondre seems to be their main threat going forward this season with an average 2.5 shots per game in the league so far. Filipe Morais is also a goal-threat with a mix of set-pieces and excellent long-range shooting.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

David Wheater (back) and Josh Vela (ankle) are doubts while Sammy Ameobi (knee) is out for a month.
