Birmingham City vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Sunday SKY TV game (12:00) is a second city Derby and should be a passionate high-octane affair. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Birmingham will be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 loss away to Millwall in their last league game. The result of that game was harsh on the Blues who only just trailed the Lions on the expected goals data. Aston Villa continued their upturn in fortune with a 2-1 home victory over Fulham last weekend. Villa had a goal each from John Terry and Albert Adomah to thank as they claimed all three points. The last two meetings between the duo at St Andrews have both ended in the same scoreline of a 1-1 draw. In fact, Villa have not lost any of their last four against their local rivals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Barnsley and Burton are both in and around Birmingham at the moment and Villa have gone to those sides recently and dispatched them with ease. They might find it tougher here against a local rival but I still think they have too much talent not to come out on top and the prices look good on an away win. Albert Adomah is in a rich vein of goalscoring form with five in the last six and he goes off at decent odds here and I will take him in the first goalscorer market with each-way odds on him to net at any time.

Birmingham City Preview

It has been a mixed bag for the Blues recently with two victories, one draw and two defeats from their last five. They sit in 21st place and must take advantage of a run of games that sees three of their next four at their own ground. At St Andrews, the results have been decent with ten of their 11 points this season coming in front of their own fans. They have won each of their last two at home 1-0 which came against tricky opponents in Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday. A lack of goals has been an issue for Birmingham this season having netted the third lowest amount in the league with just eight netted. Their defence has also looked shaky having shipped 21 which is the joint fourth worst record.

Birmingham City Team News

David Stockdale (broken wrist) and Jason Lowe (hamstring) are back in training while Carl Jenkinson (dislocated shoulder) is listed day-to-day.

Aston Villa Preview

The Midlands outfit are in good form with four victories and just one defeat (which came against Wolves) from their last five. After a slow start to the season they have found a formation and team selection that works for them and were fifth going into the weekend fixtures. Away from Villa Park, it has been a mixed bag with two victories, one draw and three defeats. Three of these have been against teams in the bottom half and Villa have won two of them and last one. The 19 goals they have scored this season is the sixth best in the league while the 13 they have conceded gives them the joint seventh best defensive record. Villa are strong starters and have only been behind once at the interval this season.

Aston Villa Team News

Henri Lansbury (knee) and Jack Grealish (stomach) are back in training while Andre Green (hamstring), Rushian Hepburn-Murphy (thigh) Gabby Agbonlahor and Mile Jedinak (both groin) are listed day-to-day. Neil Taylor will also miss out as he is suspended.
