Belgium vs Greece Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Belgium will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the World Cup qualifying group H table when they welcome Greece at the Stade Roi Baudouin on Saturday night. Belgium managed a ridiculous 8-1 home victory over Estonia last time out, with Dries Mertens and Romelu Lukaku scoring a brace each, while Thomas Meunier, Eden Hazard, Yannick Carrasco and Klavan scoring the other four goals. On the other hand, Greece managed to snatch a point from their 1-1 home draw against Bosnia & Herzegovina thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser from Georgios Tzavellas. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Belgium are heavy favourites to win here due to their incredible squad, but Greece looked very strong throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign. Greece have only allowed two goals in four group fixtures, and they managed to score at least two goals in their two away games throughout this qualifying campaign. Belgium should be able to grab three points here, but I’m expecting a tight affair.

Belgium Preview

After losing 3-1 at the hands of Wales in the quarter-finals of the Euro 2016 last summer, Belgium kicked off their World Cup qualifying campaign in a perfect manner. They have picked up victories in each of their opening four qualifiers, scoring an amazing tally of 21 goals in the process. The Belgians also looked good at the other end of the field, conceding just once in their four group games so far. Sandwiched in-between these qualifiers, Belgium managed a 1-1 draw against Netherlands in a friendly fixture back at the beginning of November. The Belgians sit comfortable on top of the Group H table with maximum points after four rounds, two points clear of the 2nd-placed and their Saturday’s opponents, Greece. On home soil, Belgium have only lost one of their last 19 home fixtures across all competitions, winning 15 in the process. In addition, the Belgians have won their both home meetings with Greece in all competitions, scoring four goals and conceding none in this term. Romelu Lukaku is leading the team’s goalscoring charts with 5 goals under his belt, while Christian Benteke, Eden Hazard and Dries Mertens have scored three goals each so far in this qualifying campaign. However, Eden Hazard pulled out of Belgium squad with a calf injury and his brother Thorgan Hazard replaced him.

Greece Preview

Greece had a disappointing Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, finishing bottom of their group with just six points after ten rounds. However, they opened this World Cup qualifying campaign brightly with back-to-back wins over Gibraltar, Cyprus and Estonia along with a hard-fought 1-1 home draw against Bosnia & Herzegovina in their most recent group fixture. This leaves Greece in second position in the group H table with 10 points to their name after four games, just two points off their Saturday’s opponents. Greece managed a decent tally of 9 goals throughout this qualifying campaign, but their performance was largely based on their solid defence, conceding just two goals in four games. Sandwiched in-between their qualifiers, Greece suffered a 0-1 home defeat at the hands of Belarus in a friendly fixture back at the beginning of November. The Greeks can count on their recent away form ahead of this clash as they have won the last four trips across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in each of these. The bad news is that Greece have only won one of their five meetings with Belgium in all competitions, while losing twice in this term. Konstantinos Mitroglou and Vassilios Torosidis have been Greece’s most prolific players in front of goal throughout this campaign, as they have scored two goals each in the opening four qualifiers.
