Belgium vs Cyprus Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Belgium will be looking to finish their World Cup qualifying campaign unbeaten when they welcome Cyprus at the Stade Roi Baudouin on Tuesday night for the final round of their group H. Belgium managed a hard-fought 3-4 away win over Bosnia & Herzegovina last time out thanks to goals from Thomas Meunier, Michy Batshuayi, Jan Vertonghen and Yannick Carrasco. On the other hand, Cyprus threw away a one-goal lead following Pieros Sotiriou’s early goal to succumb to a 1-2 home loss at the hands of Greece. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I’m expecting Belgium to finish this World Cup qualifying campaign in fashion as their recent home form has seen them score 24 goals in their last five games across all competitions. Furthermore, the Belgians have scored at least two goals in three of their four home meetings with Cyprus across all competitions.

Belgium Preview

Belgium had a comfortable run throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign and they have never looked in any danger to secure a place in Russia next summer. The Belgians have won eight and draw one of their nine qualifiers, including a hard-fought 3-4 away victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina on Saturday. Belgium sit comfortably at the top of the group H table with 25 points under their belts after nine group games, already nine points clear of the second-placed Greece. Belgium have plenty of attacking options up front and it’s no surprise that they are this World Cup qualifying campaign’s topscorers. The Belgians have scored 39 goals in nine games, which means an impressive 4.33 goals per game on average. Romelu Lukaku is the team’s topscorer with ten goals under his belt, while Dries Mertens and Thomas Meunier have bagged ten goals and 14 assists between them. On home soil, Belgium are undefeated in their last five home meetings with Cyprus across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in four of these. In addition, Belgium have won their four home meetings with Cyprus across all competitions, scoring eleven goals and conceding just two in this term.

Belgium Team News

Romelu Lukaku is Belgium’s biggest absentee ahead of this game as he has been ruled out due to an ankle injury. In addition, Marouane Fellaini got injured last time out against Bosnia and he is a doubt ahead of this tie.

Cyprus Preview

Cyprus have endured a mixed run of form throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign, winning three, drawing once and losing five of their nine qualifiers. They managed a hard-fought 3-2 home win over Bosnia & Herzegovina towards the end of August, but then they suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Estonia and Greece. The Cypriots currently sit 5th in the group H table with just 10 points under their belts, already six points behind the second-placed Greece. They managed to pull off a few upsets throughout this qualifying campaign, but unfortunately, this wasn’t enough as their qualification hopes ended on Saturday after losing 1-2 at home against Greece. Scoring goals has been Cyprus’ main issue throughout this campaign as they hold the second worst attacking record in the division with just nine goals scored in nine rounds. Pieros Sotiriou has been Cyprus’ most dangerous player in front of goal throughout this qualifying campaign as he is the team’s topscorer with four goals and one assist under his belt. Their recent away form has been terrible, as they have lost six of their last seven games across all competitions, scoring just three goals in this term.

Cyprus Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Cyprus ahead of this trip.
