Bayern Munich vs Mainz 05 Match Prediction

By William Hall

Bayern Munich come into Saturday's home match with Mainz on the back of a loss last weekend in the Bundesliga that will give them extra motivation against their much smaller opponents. Bayern lost 2-0 last weekend to Hoffenheim, while Mainz got a big 3-1 home win against Bayer Leverkusen. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Mainz got a surprising 2-2 draw away to Bayern last April in the Bundesliga, and that was their first result against Bayern since a 0-0 draw in 2012. The last win Mainz have over them was in 2011, and they have just four total in 23 meetings against the Bavarian side. Bayern have no excuses in this match, and they should be winning it comfortably.

Bayern Munich Preview

Bayern Munich's season will get a little bit harder now that they are back in the Champions League and are forced to juggle their squad. However, few should feel sorry for them as they have vast amounts of cash and a large squad full of quality players should rotation be necessary to manager Carlo Ancelotti. That rotation cost them a little bit last weekend away to Hoffenheim. After winning as they were expected to in the first two weeks, they lost 2-0 away to the young upstarts. Both goals that they conceded were to Marc Uth, one in the 27th minute and the other in the 51st. On Tuesday, they faced Anderlecht in the Champions League group stages and they won easily 3-0. Robert Lewandowski dusted himself off, after drawing a penalty and a red card, to slot home after 12 minutes. Thiago finally got them their second after 65 minutes, and then Joshua Kimmich completed the job in the waning moments.

Bayern Munich Team News

Bayern will have to make do once again without left back Juan Bernat, as well as young defender Felix Gotze due to injuries. David Alaba missed out on the Champions League match, but he is closing in on a return. Center midfielder Arturo Vidal, who was suspended in midweek, will be eligible to come back into the team.

Mainz 05 Preview

Mainz's season got off to a slow start with losses against both Hannover (home) and Stuttgart (away) by a score of 1-0, but they seemingly got everything back on track during the international break to help them leapfrog back into the good graces of their supporters with a massive 3-1 win at home over Bayer Leverkusen last Saturday. The win not only condemned Leverkusen to just one point in three matches, but it takes Mainz into 13th place in the early season table. And Mainz will be happy with the manner in which they fought back. It took character to rebound from a 0-1 deficit after just 22 minutes when Dominik Kohr had steered home for Leverkusen. However, they hit back through Yoshi Muto on the cusp of half time. From there, Levin Oztunali had a great showing in the second half to set up goals for both Abdou Diallo (57th minute) and Suat Serdar (71st minute) to earn what could be a vital victory.

Mainz 05 Team News

Manager Sandro Schwarz has a long injury list holding his side back at the moment. Joining goalkeeper Jannik Huth with injuries are center backs Alexander Hack and Nicko Bungert, left back Gaetan Bussmann, midfielders Philipp Klement, Alexandru Maxim, and Danny Latza, and forwards Kenan Kodro and Emil Berggreen.
