Barnsley vs Nottingham Forest Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) game features two sides who have made contrasting starts to the Championship season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Barnsley went down to their second defeat of the season on Saturday as they lost 2-1 at home to Ipswich. Tom Bradshaw put them ahead after 15 minutes and they were coasting in the first-half but then fell off in the second and Town grabbed all three points. Nottingham Forest made it two victories from two games with a 4-3 victory in a seven-goal thriller at Brentford. Andreas Bouchalakis grabbed a brace in that game while it was one each for Daryl Murphy and Kieran Dowell. The away side won both meetings between this par last season with Forest winning 5-2 at Oakwell and Barnsley defeating them 1-0 at the City Ground.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Forest will be a popular bet following the respective starts made by both these teams though it is probably not for me. The Tykes were a little unlucky on Saturday while everything Forest hit seemed to go in. A far safer better than taking Forest to win the game is backing them to score over 1.5 goals which is also better than evens. The Tricky Trees got four in their last game and the Tykes shipped two to Ipswich last time who have a lot less firepower than the East Midlands outfit. Although he has just one for the season Barrie McKay looks a great signing and he is averaging two shots per game and what a shot it is. I think he looks the value call here in the scorer markets.

Barnsley Preview

At home, it is now ten without victory in the league for Barnsley though they did record a victory in the League Cup. A feature of these games is both teams scoring which has now happened in each of their last four at Oakwell and in seven of eight. Tom Bradshaw has been their main source of goals this season with three in three in all competitions while Ryan Hedges has two in the last two. In each of their last four home games they have managed to net in the first-half. Two of their three this season have gone over 3.5 goals with all three going over 2.5 and seeing both teams score. Four of the last five they have conceded have come in the second-half.

Barnsley Team News

They have no registered injuries or suspensions.

Nottingham Forest Preview

It is three games and three victories from Forest in all competitions who seem to have settled well under Mark Warburton. One of the features of their early action is just how many attacking players they select. On the road, victory at Brentford put to an end a poor run from the previous season where they were without a victory in 13 league road trips. Their four goals last time out was also an emphatic end to three away matches without a goal. The Tricky Trees have netted in the first-half of each of their three matches so this season. In each of their last two they have shipped a goal in the final 11 minutes of the encounter.

Nottingham Forest Team News

Jamie Ward is out for a few weeks with a calf injury.
