Barnsley vs Ipswich Town Match Prediction

Barnsley v Ipswich Town, Match Prediction and Betting Tips

This Saturday afternoon game (15:00) features two sides who had contrasting fortunes on the opening weekend of the season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. All the optimism was drained out of the travelling Barnsley fans as they were down three goals in the opening thirty minutes of their game with Bristol City. They did improve in the second-half but a 90th minute Ryan Hedges goal was a mere consolation. It was a good start to the season for Ipswich who defeated Birmingham 1-0 at Portman Road thanks to a Joe Garner goal following his summer move from Rangers. The Suffolk side were on top from their encounters last season taking four points as they won the home game and drew the away game. Grant Ward got a hat-trick in the match at Portman Road last season.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The draw looks the play here as this has occurred in each of the last six for Barnsley while Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy is the original win your home games, draw your away games type of manager. I could not put those off wanting a correct score bet to go a step further and take 1-1 in the correct score market a common scoreline for the Tykes. I would also recommend a play at bigger prices on Angus McDonald in the goalscorer markets. The Barnsley defender was a clear target for set-pieces in the last league game and looks over-priced here against an Ipswich side that struggled in the aerial duels in their opening game.

Barnsley Preview

At Oakwell, the draw has occurred in each of the last six for Barnsley and seven of the last eight. 1-1 was the common scoreline with this occurring in five of the last six league games in front of their own fans. If you take into account the end of the season and the start of this one it is just one win in their last 15 league games for Barnsley. Despite only playing 28 minutes Ryan Hedges registered the most shots on target last weekend of all the Tykes players and he could be in line for a start here. In the League Cup, they were involved in a seven-goal thriller with Morecambe in midweek coming out on top of this battle 4-3. Tom Bradshaw grabbed a brace in that game, Ike Ugbo one and Ryan Hedges the 90th minute winner.

Ipswich Town Preview

Victory on the opening day of the season was a good start to the campaign for Ipswich who as well as Joe Garner had to thank Bartosz Bialkowski who made some important saves either side of the break. On the road, Town struggled last season and lost four of their last five at the end of the Championship campaign. A feature of these road matches was both teams scoring which happened in seven of their last ten. Despite a tricky looking trip to Luton in the League Cup Town progressed to the next round with a 2-0 victory. David McGoldrick was the scorer that day grabbing both goals in a confidence boosting success.
