Barnsley vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the bottom half of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Barnsley registered a second successive home draw in their last game battling out a 2-2 with highly-rated Middlesbrough. They twice took the lead but were twice pegged back and had to settle for a point despite a Cameron McGeehan strike and an Ashley Fletcher own-goal. Hull also had to settle for a point in a game they thought they had won leading the Canaries until conceding a 96th minute equalizer. Nouha Dicko had given them a first-half lead but it was one way traffic following a 57th minute dismissal of David Meyler. The last time these two sides met in a competitive game it was back in April 2013 at Oakwell in competitive fixtures have been split with three victories each.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given that the table shows little between the pair I think this game is priced on reputation alone. The visitors are far too short considering they have not won an away game all season and the shot data suggests they should have been beaten easily by Norwich last time out. The Tykes are a solid team in front of their own fans and I like them with the safety of the draw no bet. Both teams are shipping goals and the home side have scored around 60% of their goals in the first-half and the visitor around 50%. I think then you can get some value out of the price in the YES both teams will score in the first-half market which seems pitched too high currently.

Barnsley Preview

It is now three unbeaten for the Tykes with five points taken from a possible nine on offer in their last three fixtures. They sit in 19th place but this is the first of three coming up in their next four against teams in the bottom-half of the table. At Oakwell, they are three games without a victory though they have drawn each of their last two. Only Burton and Bolton have conceded more goals in front of their own fans than the nine they have shipped. The Yorkshire outfit are fifth in terms of goals per fixture ration with an average of 2.91 per match with eight of 11 going over 2.5. Both teams to score has happened in each of their last four and five of the last six.

They have no registered injuries or suspensions

Hull City Preview

A draw last time out was their third in five fixtures and makes it just six points from the last possible 21 on offer. They sit in 16th place and this marks their first of two games against teams in the bottom-half of the table. Away from the KC Stadium, they have really struggled with three draws and three defeats from six. Only Birmingham and Sunderland have shipped more road goals (13) than the 12 they have conceded. The Tigers are the top scorers in the league with 23 goals netted from 12 matches played so far. They are naturally then the side to watch for entertainment with a league high 3.58 goals per game and none of their ties this season going under two goals.

Hull City Team News

Evandro (hamstring) is listed day-to-day while David Meyler will miss the game through suspension. Frazier Campbell (broken knee), Moses Odubajo (broken knee cap), Abel Hernandez (Achilles), Ryan Mason (skull fracture), Will Keane (cruciate) and Stephen Kinglsey (groin) are all long-term absentees.
