Barnsley vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in need of points at opposite ends of the Championship.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Barnsley remain in relegation trouble and suffered a 2-0 home loss to Millwall in their last match.  The expected goals data suggests that the Yorkshire outfit were a little unlucky in a game they created the better chances in.

Bristol City kept touch with the play-off sides as they picked up a 1-0 home victory over Ipswich last time out.  A Milan Djuric goal proved to be the difference between the two teams in a closely fought battle.

The reverse fixture came on the opening day of the season and the Robins won that encounter 3-1.  Bobby Reid grabbed a brace on that occasion while Famara Diedhiou netted one with Ryan Hedges getting a late consolation for the Tykes.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Barnsley are in poor form so I cannot be siding with them though nor can I be backing Bristol City at those odds considering they have won none of their last eight on the road so look to some other markets for the value.

Both sides have good players going forward and with four of the last five and five of the last seven at Oakwell seeing both teams find the back of the net this looks worth an interest.

Ten of the 19 that the Robins have played this season have been level going into the interval so this also looks worth an interest.

Barnsley Preview

Just two points from their last five fixtures means that the Tykes are now just out of the bottom three on goal-difference.  They now face a run of matches that sees three of their next four against top-half sides and all four against top 16 opponents.

At Oakwell, it is now 11 Championship ties in a row without a victory though five of these have finished all-square.  Four of their last five and five of their last seven in front of their own fans have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Oliver McBurnie is in good goalscoring form and has netted in six of his last eight league appearances.  None of the last nine Barnsley matches have seen a goal in the final 15 minutes.

Barnsley Team News

Joe Williams (back) and Matt Mills (ankle) are doubts.

Bristol City Preview

The Robins have taken seven points from their last four to bounce back after a run of just one victory from their previous ten.  They are in seventh now just one point and place behind Middlesbrough in six with eight fixtures remaining.

Away from Ashton Gate, they have gone eight without recording a victory though four of these finished drawn.  A lack of road goals has been an issue with just three netted from their last seven on their travels.

Just two of the last six Bristol City have played have gone over 2.5 goals with three of their last five going under 1.5.  Their last six meetings with Barnsley have all produced goals with each one going over 3.5.

Bristol City Team News

Aden Flint will miss the game through suspension but Joe Bryan is available.  Nathan Baker (knee) is a doubt while Matty Taylor (hernia) and Callum O’Dowda (ankle) are long-term absentees.
