Barnsley vs Brighton & Hove Albion Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

Barnsley v Brighton & Hove Albion, Match Prediction

This game at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon (15:00) will feature two sides in the top half of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Recent head-to-head meetings have produced mixed results with Brighton winning two of their last six, Barnsley also winning two while the game has finished all square twice. The last meeting between the pair occurred in September at the Amex and it was the Seagulls who came out on top 2-0 thanks to a goal in each half from Glenn Murray.

It was all three points at Villa Park on Tuesday evening for Barnsley who kept alive their play-off hopes with victory.  The Tykes had Adam Armstrong (pen) and a brace from Tom Bradshaw to thank for the goals in their 3-1 victory.

It was a disappointing home draw with Ipswich last time out for Brighton.  They went 1-0 down in the ninth minute to a Luke Chambers goal before Tomer Hemed penalty put them level. The game was to produce no more goals and ended 1-1.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Four of the six matches away to top ten sides that Brighton have played have gone over 2.5 goals (with the other two both featuring exactly two).  Four of the five Barnsley have played at top half sides at home have also gone over 2.5.  Over 2,5 then looks the way to play this.

Brentford, Huddersfield and Preston have all grabbed two or more against Brighton in recent weeks and I see no reason why Barnsley can not do so either.  They look decent value to go over 1.5 goals here which would have paid in six of nine at Oakwell versus top 16 sides.

Barnsley Preview

It was an important three points at Villa last time as it put to an end a run of three games without a victory and gave Barnsley some hope in their play-off chase. They sit in ninth place headed into the weekend fixtures, six behind Sheffield Wednesday though the Owls have a game in hand.

Results at Oakwell have been disappointing in recent weeks with just one win in their last five matches at their own ground in all competitions. Five of their last seven home fixtures have gone over 2.5 goals.

11 of the last 19 goals in Barnsley games have came in the first half of matches. Just four of their last nine Championship fixtures have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Brighton Preview

A 1-1 draw with Ipswich last time out and victory for Huddersfield in third means that the Terriers are now four points behind Brighton in the race for an automatic promotion slot.

The Seagulls have struggled on the road in recent weeks going four games in all competitions without a win. An inability to keep a clean sheet on their travels is a current problem as they have conceded in each of their last seven matches.

Five of their last six away fixtures in the league have gone over 2.5 goals and the same amount have seen both teams find the back of the net. The last two ties would have gone over 3.5 goals.
