Barnsley vs Brentford Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Barnsley suffered a second successive defeat as they went down on the road to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.  It finished 3-0 in the end and means they missed an opportunity to get out of the bottom three.

Brentford stretched their unbeaten run to seven and kept alive their play-off hopes with a defeat of QPR last weekend.  Sergi Canos and Florian Jozefzoon got their goals in a 2-1 victory that their performance certainly deserved.

The reverse fixture came in mid-December and it ended in a goalless draw to mark the second successive meeting between these sides. In fact, five of their last seven head-to-heads have ended all-square.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Brentford look good things here and I would recommend backing them as they have won six of their last ten on the road while Barnsley have lost six of their last ten at all grounds.

Both sides need to win this game so I expect this game to have goals though so do bookmakers.  I think Brentford are capable of netting before the time of their first team goal which is set at 41:00.

Barnsley Preview

The Tykes run of just one point from their last four and one victory in 11 has them in the bottom three and facing relegation.  They are two points behind Bolton and face this game and a final day road trip to Derby.

At Oakwell, they are unbeaten in five losing just one of these fixtures though also winning just one of these.  Each of their last three and seven of their last eight at their own ground have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Gary Gardner and Oliver McBurnie have netted twice in their previous five fixtures.  Barnsley have netted 45 goals this season with 24 of them coming in the opening half and they would be as high as 15th if results were recorded after 45 minutes.

Barnsley Team News

Nick Townsend (hand) has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Brentford Preview

The Bees run of seven without defeat including four victories in their last five has kept alive their play-off hopes.  They sit in eighth place three points behind Millwall with two play which includes a season ending home game with Hull.

Away from Griffin Park, they have won six of their last 11 which also includes four defeats and one draw.  None of their last seven and just one of their last nine on the road has gone over 2.5 goals.

Each of the last two and five of the last eight Brentford have played have seen both teams find the back of the net.  Neal Maupay has bagged three goals in his last five domestic appearances.

Brentford Team News

Rico Henry (knee) is a long-term absentee while Alan Judge (hamstring) is a doubt.
