Barnsley vs Birmingham City Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides at the bottom end of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Barnsley picked up a useful three points in midweek as they won an entertaining game at Burton 4-2. The goals were shared around the team with one each for Lloyd Isgrove, Brad Potts, Joseph Williams and Harvey Barnes. Birmingham continued their recent struggles going down at home to Brentford. The game looked to be headed to a goalless draw but the Bees netted two in the last 16 minutes including one from the penalty spot. The Tykes took four points from their two meetings last season against the Blues winning 3-0 at St Andrew’s and drawing 2-2 at Oakwell. Marc Roberts had mixed fortunes in these games, getting sent-off in Yorkshire and grabbing the opener in the Midlands.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The Blues have lost six of seven on the road so I was looking to oppose them but given the Tykes have won just two of seven (and none of their last four) at home I could not bring myself to back them either so I will look away from the match markets for the recommended bets. A combined 15 of the 29 this pair have played this season have been level at half-time and this looks a sensible way to approach this game. It is also most likely given the scoring issues both these sides have that the interval scoreline will be 0-0 so take a little play on this.

Barnsley Preview

The Tykes have lost just one of their last six and taken nine points from these fixtures with two victories and three draws. They are currently in 19th place and have taken 16 points though have a game in hand of most sides having played just 14 times. At Oakwell, they are without a win in four drawing two of these games and losing the other two. They have kept just one clean sheet at their own ground this season and that was against struggling Sunderland. The 20 goals they have scored this season puts them in the middle of the table as does the 21 they have conceded. Five of the last six that they have conceded have come in the first 45 minutes.

Birmingham City Preview

After a promising open game victory for boss Steve Cotterill it is now just one point from their last three for the Blues. After this game, each of their next four comes against a side in the top 14 of the division. Away from St Andrew’s, they have taken just one point all season with defeats in each of their last two. A lack of road goals is an issue with only Burton going lower than the three that they have netted. Goals in general are an issue for Birmingham who are the lowest scorers in the division with just eight netted. Just six of the 23 that they have conceded this season have come in the opening 45 minutes.

Birmingham City Team News

David Stockdale (broken wrist) and Jason Lowe (hamstring) are close to returns while Carl Jenkinson (dislocated shoulder), Isaac Vassell (knee), Emilio Nsue (unknown) and Maxime Colin (leg) are doubts.
