Barcelona vs Sporting CP Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Barcelona will look to seal the Champions League group D spot when they welcome Sporting Lisbon at the Camp Nou on Tuesday night. Barcelona dominated their away match against Juventus in terms of both possession and goalscoring opportunities, but they only managed a nil-nil draw. Meanwhile, Sporting Lisbon picked up a comfortable 3-1 home win over Olympiakos Piraeus thanks to a brace from Bas Dost and another goal from Bruno Cesar. Betting Predictions and Tips

Barcelona looked very solid at the back this season, but they showed some defensive frailties of late. They have conceded three goals in their most recent two games in La Liga and they now take on a Sporting side, who scored at least once in each of their last ten competitive fixtures. I fancy both teams to score here and I also expect more than three goals.

Barcelona Preview

Barcelona are currently on a 21-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, a run that stretches back to the middle of August when they lost 5-1 on aggregate at the hands of Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup. The Blaugrana have been a tough side this season despite losing their star player Neymar in the summer. They sit comfortably at the top of the La Liga table and they will also seal the top spot mathematically in the Champions League group D with at least a draw against Sporting on Tuesday night. Valverde’s men have struggled a bit recently though, as three of their last four competitive fixtures have ended in draws. Their sole win in the last four games was a comfortable 5-0 victory over Murcia in the Copa del Rey five days ago. At home, Barcelona have won nine of their last ten games across all competitions, keeping six clean sheets in the process. Regarding their Champions League home record, the Blaugrana are undefeated in 23 games since a 0-3 loss at the hands of Bayern Munich back in May 2013. In addition, they have scored at least two goals in nine of their last ten Champions League home fixtures. Leo Messi has been imperial this season as he scored 16 goals across all competitions so far, and he is currently the La Liga’s top scorer with 13 goals under his belt.

Barcelona Team News

Javier Mascherano, Samuel Umtiti and Osumane Dembele are still missing through injury, while Andres Iniesta and Rafinha are both doubts. The good news is that Arda Turan is back in training following his ankle injury.

Sporting CP Preview

Sporting Lisbon, on the flip side, have also enjoyed a good run of form over the past three months, losing just two of their last 15 games across all competitions. The Portuguese are currently on an eight-game unbeaten streak, including a 3-1 home victory over Olympiakos Piraeus last time out in the Champions League. This leaves Sporting third in the group D table and they need a miracle in order to qualify for the next stage of the competition. They need to win at Camp Nou on Tuesday night and hope that Juventus will fail to pick up three points in their trip to Piraeus. The bad news is that Sporting have endured a disappointing away run of form in the Champions League, losing seven of their last nine games. Their recent away form has seen Sporting lose just once in their last ten competitive fixtures, scoring at least two goals in seven of these. Regarding their Primeira Liga campaign, Sporting currently lie second in the standings tied on 33 points with the current leaders FC Porto. Bas Dost has played a vital role in Sporting’s performances throughout this competitive season, scoring 12 goals across all competitions.

Sporting CP Team News

Jonathan Silva is out through a knee injury, while Seydou Doumbia is a doubt.
