Barcelona vs Olympiacos Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

It’s top against bottom in the third round of the Champions League group D, as Barcelona welcome Olympiakos Piraeus at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night. Barcelona picked up a narrow 0-1 away win at Sporting Lisbon last time out thanks to an own-goal from the Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates. On the other hand, Olympiakos Piraeus lost 2-0 on the road at Juventus, with Takis Lemonis’ men conceding both goals in the second half. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Barcelona’s recent home form across all competitions has been amazing as they have won their last five games, scoring a huge 19 goals in this term. On the flip side, Olympiakos have struggled to keep the ball out of their own net recently, particularly on the road where they allowed nine goals in their last three trips. I’m backing Barcelona to secure a thrashing victory here, and I’m also fancying Lionel Messi to continue this goalscoring form and to score a brace here.

Barcelona Preview

After a disappointing 5-1 aggregate loss at the hands of their eternal rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup at the beginning of this 2017/18 competitive season and the departure of Neymar, Barcelona regrouped themselves and they looked much stronger than last season. The Blaugrana were on a nine-game winning streak across all competitions prior to their 1-1 away draw at Atletico Madrid in La Liga at the weekend. During this impressive run of form, Barca managed back-to-back victories over Juventus and Sporting Lisbon in the opening two fixtures of their Champions League group stage campaign. They sit comfortably at the top of the group D table with maximum points after two rounds, scoring four goals and conceding none in the process. This is Barcelona’s 14th group stage appearance in succession and the last time they failed to reach the round of 16 was in 2000/01 season. The Blaugrana are undefeated in 23 Champions League home fixtures at the moment since a 0-3 loss against Bayern Munich back in May 2013. Their recent home form across all competitions has seen them win their last five competitive home fixtures, scoring 19 goals and conceding just once in this term. Lionel Messi has been absolutely fantastic in this early part of the season, helping the team with 13 goals and two assists across all competitions.

Barcelona Team News

Rafinha and Ousmane Dembele are both missing through injury ahead of this game.

Olympiacos Preview

Meanwhile, Olympiakos Piraeus have struggled for consistency over the past month, winning just two of their last eight games across all competitions. The Greeks were on a three-game losing streak prior to their 3-4 away victory at Panionios in the Greek Super League at the weekend. Olympiakos used to dominate the Greek Super League over the past 15 years, but this season they had one of the worst starts in history, collecting just eleven points from the opening seven league games. They also kicked off their Champions League group stage campaign in a disappointing manner, registering back-to-back defeats at the hands of Sporting Lisbon and Juventus, conceding five goals in the process. Keeping the ball out of their own net has been Olympiakos’ main problem over the past month, as they allowed at least two goals in four of their last seven competitive games. Away from home, Olympiakos were on a three-game winless run across all competitions prior to their 3-4 victory at Panionios in their most recent trip. Their recent Champions League away record has also been poor as they have lost three of their last five games, scoring none in this term.

Olympiacos Team News

Athanasios Androutsos, Emmanuel Emenike and Jagos Vukovic are all doubts.
