Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Barcelona were held to a surprise 1-1 draw by Las Palmas at the Gran Canaria in the midweek action. Lionel Messi provided the Catalan outfit with a lead after 21 minutes, but the Catalan outfit were shocked when Jonathan Calleri equalised from the spot in the 49th minute. Barcelona failed to win the game in the second half. Atletico Madrid thrashed Leganes 4-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano. Antoine Griezmann grabbed the match ball after scoring four goals – two in either half – to offer consecutive big wins for Diego Simeone’s team.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Barcelona have been going through a shaky run of form. Atletico have the form and capability to capitalise on this disappointing run for the Catalan giants. Three out of the last five meetings between these two teams have finished as draws. In fact, Atletico’s last two trips to the Camp Nou have finished with a 1-1 score. I would choose a draw in this fixture. Atletico may have averaged almost 3 goals per game in the last six matches, but Diego Simeone will be aware of the opposition’s quality. Atletico’s attacking intent will be toned down for this game. I can see a game that will experience under 2.5 goals in total.

Barcelona Preview

The last few weeks have been testing times for Barcelona, as the rare occurrence of a draw has been transformed into a river of stalemates. The Catalan outfit merely appeared to be dropping points in the Espanyol game, but they have since then been involved in three draws in the last five matches. Since the transfer of Philippe Coutinho for more than £140 million, Barcelona’s attack has not been at its best. The 6-1 thrashing of Girona is the only match in which Barcelona have scored over 2.5 goals in the last 10. However, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez continue to remain in good form and the two have managed 43 goals among them.

Barcelona Team News

Ernesto Valverde will be without Sergei Samper (ankle), Nelson Semedo (hamstring), and José Manuel Arnaiz (groin).

Atletico Madrid Preview

Diego Simeone cannot be any happier at the moment, as his Atletico team have been destroying opponents with amazing grace and precision. Atletico would top the table if only the last six matches were taken into account, as they have taken 18 points in this period; it is five more than Real Madrid and six more than Barcelona. During this period, the team has conceded just two goals but has scored 16 in return. A major chunk of this good form has to go down to Antoine Griezmann, who has rediscovered his scoring boots once again. The French superstar was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in January, and he is now up to 20 goals for the campaign.

Atletico Madrid Team News

Lucas Hernandez and Stefan Savic are the players unavailable due to thigh injuries.
