Azerbaijan vs Germany Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Germany will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the World Cup qualifying group C table when they take on Azerbaijan on Sunday evening. Azerbaijan were thrashed 4-0 on the road in Northern Ireland despite the fact that they had a better ball possession than the hosts. On the other hand, Germany managed a ridiculous 0-8 victory over San Marino last time out thanks to a hat-trick from Serge Gnabry, a brace from Jonas Hector, two goals from Sami Khedira and Kevin Volland and an own-goal from Mattia Stefanelli. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Germany should have no problems in picking up all three points in this one, but for better value, I’m expecting them to score a couple of goals and to keep a clean sheet here. Actually, they have kept a clean sheet in each of their opening four qualifiers throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign, while scoring 16 goals in the process.

Azerbaijan Preview

Azerbaijan didn’t come close to qualifying for the Euros, as they finished only second from bottom after losing six of their ten group games. However, they have improved considerably since then and kicked off this World Cup qualifying campaign in a completely different manner. They managed two narrow 1-0 wins over San Marino and Norway along with a nil-nil draw against Czech Republic, before losing 4-0 on the road in Northern Ireland. The Azeri currently sit in a respectable 3rd position in the group C table tied on seven points with the second-placed Northern Ireland. Despite their impressive position in the standings, Azerbaijan have only scored two goals in their opening four qualifiers. Robert Prosinescki’s men have been a decent side on home soil over the past four years, having lost just four of their last 15 home fixtures across all competitions. Furthermore, Azerbaijan are currently on a two-game unbeaten streak in all competitions at home, keeping a clean sheet in both of these. Head-to-head, Azerbaijan have lost all of their four meetings with Germany in all competitions, conceding at least two goals in each of these. However, Azerbaijan looked very good in their 1-2 victory over Qatar in a friendly fixture a fortnight ago.

Germany Preview

Germany are the defending World Champions, but they haven’t been at their best at the Euro 2016 last summer as they were beaten 2-0 in the Semifinals by the hosts. However, the Germans made a perfect start to qualification for the next World Cup with four victories from their first four group games. Furthermore, Germany managed some impressive results in their recent friendlies, as they held Italy to a nil-nil draw back in November 2016 and won 1-0 over England on Wednesday. Lukas Podolski scored a stunning winner, which was his 49th and final goal as he retired from International football. Germany looked impeccable at the back since their defeat at the hands of France last summer, as they kept a clean sheet in each of their last seven games across all competitions. They sit comfortable on top of the Group C table with maximum points after four rounds, scoring 16 goals and conceding none in this term. Away from home, the Germans are undefeated in their last three games across all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in each of these. Head-to-head, Germany have won their four meetings with Azerbaijan across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and conceding just two in this term.
