Augsburg vs Borussia Dortmund Match Prediction

By William Hall

Two of the league high-flyers go head to head this weekend as Augsburg welcome Borussia Dortmund to the WWK Arena in the Bundesliga. Bar Augsburg's opening day defeat to Hamburg, they have been on fire, winning three and drawing two of their last five matches in the league. Their most recent result saw them draw away to Stuttgart which would have been slightly disappointing after dominating the game. Dortmund are yet to lose a game this season, winning five and drawing one so far. The one draw came in a bore draw away to Freiburg which in fairness to the same side, was a great defensive display. The away side this weekend will be looking to make it four straight wins in the Bundesliga. Read on for a full match preview complete with all our best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Although Augsburg were able to hold Dortmund to two draws last season and have started the season very well, I think they will have to be at their absolute best to do the same this time around. Augsburg haven't lost a match in their last five and haven't been on the losing end of a result in their last six games at the WWK Arena. However, with Dortmund coming to town, I can see that coming to an abrupt end this weekend.

Aubameyang is once again looking unbelievable and causing defences all around Germany a lot of trouble. I wouldn't be surprised if he got on the scoresheet again this weekend, maybe more than once. Whether this Dortmund side are at home or away, they rarely lose, picking up three wins and two draws in their last five away games. I can't see them slipping up this weekend and with a lot of players full of confidence, I feel they will get the job done comfortably.

Augsburg Preview

This is the best Augsburg have started a Bundesliga season in a long time, and without a defeat in five games, they will be a tough side to beat this weekend. They have taken points off some top teams already this season, including a point at home to Borussia M'gladbach and all three at home to last season's 2nd place RB Leipzig. Another positive result this weekend will fill everyone at the club with a lot of confidence going the next few fixtures which look kind on their part. Last season Augsburg managed to hold Borussia Dortmund to two draws in both their fixtures, which is a great achievement taking into consideration that they are one of the best sides in the league. If they could take a point now for the upcoming fixture, I'm sure they would take it.

Augsburg Team News

Augsburg have six players out this weekend with Georg Teigl (back injury), Marvin Friedrick (muscle injury), Moritz Leitner (ankle injury), Raphael Framberger (knee injury), Ja-Cheol Koo (head injury) and Tim Rieder (knee injury) all sidelined.

Borussia Dortmund Preview

Borussia Dortmund have looked all but unstoppable this season, as the side have been smashing teams for fun. Bar the draw to Freiburg, Dortmund have beaten the -1 handicap result every other game. In fact, bar one of the wins, they have smashed the -2 handicap results showing they are not short of goals at the moment. As you may have guessed, Pierre-Emerick Aubaneyang has been in the centre of the goals for the club, already scoring eight in just six games. His pace, power and agility on the ball proves too much for a lot of defences in the Bundesliga, and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened once again this weekend. Borussia Dortmund will want to keep this quick start to the season up for as long as possible to try and keep at the top off the table. The longer they are there, the longer the sides below will be under the kosch. I can't see past another win for Dortmund this weekend.

Borussia Dortmund Team News

Borussia Dortmund will also be without six players this weekend with Andre Schurrle (thigh injury), Sebastian Rode (groin injury), Eric Durm (hip injury), Marcel Schmelzer (ankle injury) Marcro Reus (ACL) and Raphae Guarreiro (foot injury) all out.
