Atletico Madrid vs Valencia Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Atletico Madrid head into a huge clash on the back of a 3-0 victory over Las Palmas. Diego Simeone’s team failed to break down the opposition in the first half, but goals from Antoine Griezmann, Fernando Torres, and Thomas Partey put Atletico on the path towards their biggest win in eight La Liga matches. Valencia fell to a 4-1 loss against Real Madrid in the La Liga. Two first-half penalties from Cristiano Ronaldo eased the pressure on Madrid, who did see Santi Mina pull one back in the second half. However, late goals from Marcelo and Toni Kroos sent Valencia to a second consecutive defeat. Marcelino’s team went on to lose 1-0 against Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Atletico Madrid have been defensively solid in recent weeks and have conceded just two goals in the last six La Liga matches. Valencia have been searching for a proper direction in recent weeks and the team has been unable to score in the last three outings against Atletico. I would choose a slightly riskier but rewarding option of Atletico keeping a clean sheet.

Antoine Griezmann has been able to score in each of his last three games. The potential return of Diego Costa could alter his position on the pitch, but the Frenchman has excelled against Valencia in the past after scoring four goals in his last three games against this team. I would choose Griezmann to score anytime in the game.

Atletico Madrid clean sheet – 11/10

Griezmann to score anytime – 1/1

Atletico Madrid Preview

Atletico Madrid will be delighted at managing a huge victory over Las Palmas while also witnessing Valencia drop points in recent weeks. As a result, Diego Simeone’s team have been able to open up a six-point advantage over the third spot. Even though the possibility of catching Barcelona appears remote, Atletico will be more than happy at finishing above local rivals Real Madrid, who are a massive eight points behind. The key to Atletico maintaining this advantage will be the form and availability of Diego Costa, who has made a significant difference since his €60 million return from Chelsea. Antoine Griezmann has also hit form and is the club’s top scorer with seven goals.

Atletico Madrid Team News

Diego Simeone does not have injury or suspension worries coming into the game.

Valencia Preview

Valencia have had a disastrous start to 2018, as the club have been going from one bad result of the other. If the scores at the end of 90 minutes alone are taken into account, Valencia have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions. The club’s third spot is coming into big pressure with Real Madrid now just two points behind, while also having a game in hand. In fact, the likes of Villarreal are also emerging as potential threats for Valencia. Simone Zaza is the top scorer at Valencia with 10 league goals.

Valencia Team News

Valencia will be without Simone Zaza (stomach), Goncalo Guedes (thigh), Andreas Pereira (thigh), Ezequiel Garay (discomfort), and Geoffrey Kondogbia (discomfort) due to injuries.
