Atletico Madrid vs Roma Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Roma will look to extend their lead at the top of the group C table and to secure a place in the Champions League knockout stages when they travel to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano to take on Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night. Atletico Madrid fought back from one-goal down to secure a 1-1 home draw against Qarabag last time out thanks to a second-half goal from Thomas. On the other hand, Roma managed a comfortable 3-0 home win over Chelsea thanks to a first-half brace from Stephan El Shaarawy and a second-half goal from Diego Perotti. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview. Feel free to visit our Bet of the day page to check our best daily tips.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I’m going for a draw here, as it seems that Atletico Madrid aren’t capable of scoring goals at the moment, while Roma struggled to score at home against Los Colchoneros in the reverse fixture. However, Roma’s recent away form can’t be written off as they have won six of their last seven away games across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in five of these.

Atletico Madrid Preview

Atletico Madrid are currently on a nine-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, but seven of these have ended in draws. During this run, they managed two disappointing draws against Qarabag in their Champions League group stage campaign, leaving them only third in the group C table with just three points under their belts. They are yet to win a single group game so far and things aren’t looking good as they end this campaign with a trip to Stamford Bridge and they are already four points behind Chelsea. This means that Madrid are on the verge of elimination from the competition, which is kind of shocking as they reached the final twice in the last four years. Their recent home form has also let them down as the Colchoneros are winless in their last five home games across all competitions, registering four draws and one defeat in this term. The good news is that Diego Simeone’s men have only lost once in their last 13 Champions League home games, while winning ten. Atletico Madrid have only scored two goals throughout this group stage campaign, with Antoine Griezmann contributing with one goal and one assist.

Atletico Madrid Team News

Stefan Savic is missing through suspension ahead of this tie.

Roma Preview

On the contrary, Roma have enjoyed a terrific run of form recently, having won each of their last six games across all competitions, which includes a splendid 3-0 home victory over Chelsea last time out in the Champions League. This leaves Roma at the top of the group C table with eight points under their belts after four rounds, just one point clear of the second-placed Chelsea. This means that a victory here will seal Roma’s spot in the next stage of the competition, given the fact that they are already five points clear of the third spot and their Wednesday’s opponents Atletico Madrid. The Giallorossi are unbeaten on the road in the Champions League this season, winning 2-1 at Qarabag and drawing 3-3 at Chelsea. Their recent away form across all competitions has seen Roma win six and draw one of their last seven games, scoring at least two goals in five of these. The worrying thing is that Roma’s away record against Spanish opponents reads three draws, seven defeats and just four victories. Edin Dzeko and Stephan El Shaarawy have been Roma’s most prolific players in front of goal throughout this group stage campaign, as the pair bagged five goals and two assists.

Roma Team News

Patrik Schick and Alessandro Florenzi are both doubts, but Rick Karsdorp is out through injury.
