Atletico Madrid vs Malaga Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Atletico Madrid were unable to find a way past Valencia in the latest La Liga game, and could only return home with a goalless draw. Despite having six shots on target, manager Diego Simeone saw his team fail to find the decisive breakthrough. The midweek game in the Champions League also saw Atletico fail to find the back of the net, as they were involved in a second consecutive goalless draw. Malaga suffered a third consecutive loss, as they were beaten 3-1 by Las Palmas. Jonathan Vieira scored just before half-time, but Diego Gonzalez equalised for Malaga. Late goals from Jonathan Calleri and debutant Loic Remy secured a surprise win for Las Palmas. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The first four competitive matches of the season may have seen Atletico Madrid go unbeaten, but a return of just one win in these four matches does not make for good reading. Atletico have won the last three games against Malaga without exception. Atletico have won against this opponent at half-time and full-time in the last two games, while Malaga have been losing at half-time and full-time in two out of the opening three matches this season. The return of Antoine Griezmann strengthens Atletico substantially. I would go with Atletico to win at half-time and full-time in the game.

Malaga have scored in five out of the last six away games against Atletico. Even though Simeone’s team has kept back-to-back clean sheets in all competitions, they have also conceded three goals in the three league matches. A number of injured players are set to make their return for Malaga. I would go with both teams to score. Atletico

Madrid win at half-time and full-time – 8/11

Both teams to score – 11/8

Atletico Madrid Preview

Atletico Madrid have made a highly inconsistent start to the season. After having seen the team draw with newcomers Girona in the first match, Diego Simeone was pleased to see Atletico put five past Las Palmas. However, they were extremely poor in converting the chances against Valencia and ended up going through a goalless draw. The form now looks mediocre after another goalless draw with Roma in the Champions League. Atletico Madrid are now desperate to secure the services of a regular goalscorer like Diego Costa, while the return of Antoine Griezmann from suspension could also help the club.

Atletico Madrid Team News

Matias Fernandez (hamstring) and Sime Vrsaljko (foot) are the players on the sidelines for Atletico Madrid.

Malaga Preview

Malaga’s disastrous start to the season worsened after the club slipped to a third consecutive loss. Last season, manager Michel came into the season with the club facing the prospect of relegation and was able to revive the fortunes largely with the help of home form. However, the club have now lost three matches at the start of the 2017-18 La Liga season – two of those defeats have been at the La Rosaleda. Malaga have also been looking poor in front of goal with just one goal in the first three matches of the season.

Malaga Team News

Adalberto Maestre (foot) and Recio (hamstring) are the injury worries for Malaga.
