Atletico Madrid vs Leganes Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Atletico Madrid were able to get an immense 5-2 win over Sevilla during the weekend. Diego Simeone’s team were wide-awake to capitalize on the several errors made by the Sevilla outfit, and a hat-trick from Antoine Griezmann was the highlight of the evening. Diego Costa and Koke were able to score the goals for Atletico. Leganes stopped the sequence of four defeats with a goalless draw against Las Palmas at home. As the home team, it was Leganes who created the best opportunities in the game. However, the team had only two shots on target and were unable to break the deadlock.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

There is a possibility of Atletico taking this game with a slightly reduced focus, as the club travel to the Camp Nou for a game against Barcelona during the weekend. Even then, Atletico are expected to get a comfortable victory. Leganes have been unable to score in the last three away games, while Atletico have kept four consecutive home clean sheets. At the same time, Atletico have managed to score over 2.5 goals only once in the last six games at the Wanda Metropolitano. Since there is a possibility of rotation, I would back a 2-0 win for Atletico. Kevin Gameiro played for just 14 minutes against Sevilla, but he is likely to start this match. Diego Simeone may not risk Griezmann and Costa with the Barcelona trip coming in a few days. I would choose Kevin Gameiro to score anytime, as the striker has netted three goals in his last four appearances.

Atletico Madrid Preview

Atletico have been on a strong surge of form over the last couple of weeks. A return of seven consecutive wins in all competitions places Atletico in a good position with regard to the domestic and European commitments. Simeone sees his team remain seven points ahead of rivals Real Madrid, while the gap to Barcelona has also reduced to seven points in recent weeks. Crucially, Simeone will welcome his star centre-forward Antoine Griezmann coming to form at the right time. The arrival of Costa has certainly spiced up the competition for places at the Wanda Metropolitano. The hat-trick against Sevilla has taken Griezmann’s tally to 11 league goals and he is the top scorer at Atletico this season.

Atletico Madrid Team News

Lucas Hernandez (thigh) and Stefan Savic (thigh) are the players missing out of action for this game.

Leganes Preview

The failure to score against Las Palmas – even when playing at home – underlined the major issues for Leganes going into the last 13 matches of the season. Asier Garitano has seen his team struggle when it comes to scoring goals, and their return of just 21 goals in the 25 league matches is among the lowest in the division. At the same time, Leganes have had a strong defence which has kept clean sheets – even in high profile matches this season. Gabriel Pires is the leading scorer at Leganes with five goals.

Leganes Team News

Dimitris Siovas and Ruben Perez are suspended for the game, while Serantes (shoulder) and Darko Brasanac (shoulder) miss due to injuries.
