Atletico Madrid vs Las Palmas Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Atletico Madrid enter into the match on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw with Girona in the La Liga. Antoine Griezmann provided Diego Simeone’s team with a decisive lead, but Portu levelled the scores with a second-half goal. A bigger disappointment for Atletico was the 5-1 aggregate defeat against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals. Las Palmas picked up a surprise 2-1 win over Valencia to recover quickly from the thrashing against Girona. Even though Santi Mina provided Valencia with the lead after just five minutes, Jonathan Viera and Jonathan Calleri scored in either half to put the home team in front. Gabriel Paulista and Ruben Vezo received their marching orders in the second half.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Atletico head into the game as strong favourites for a victory. Even though Las Palmas were able to get a crucial win over Valencia, but the team has been losing at half-time and full-time in three out of the last six matches. Atletico have been experiencing a contrasting fortune during the same period. After having scored 10 goals in the last two games against Las Palmas, I would go with Atletico to score over 2.5 goals in this game.

Antoine Griezmann has been in excellent form since the turn of the year. He has either contributed assisted a goal in five out of the last six appearances. Griezmann is no stranger to scoring against Las Palmas after managing three goals in four league games. I would choose Griezmann to score anytime.

Atletico Madrid to score over 2.5 goals – 5/6

Griezmann to score anytime – 4/6

Atletico Madrid have conceeded only 4 goals in their last 10 games against Las Palmas

Las Palmas saw over 1.5 goals in 7 out of their last 10 games played against Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid Preview

Atletico Madrid have had a bad couple of days at the office, as the draw with Girona has been compounded by the Copa del Rey exit. However, Atletico can potentially recover from this disappointment rather quickly with the team having back-to-back matches at the Wanda Metropolitano. This will be followed by the Europa League action. While Diego Costa has made an instant impact in terms of goals, the returning forward has also shown his darker side by getting several cards and also an injury in the last couple of weeks. Antoine Griezmann leads the scoring charts at Atletico with six goals this season.

Atletico Madrid Team News

Diego Costa (muscle) and Nicolas Gaitan (discomfort) are the players unavailable for manager Diego Simeone, while Sime Vrsaljko is unavailable due to suspension.

Las Palmas Preview

Las Palmas cannot be ruled out of escaping the drop, as the team achieved a hugely significant result against Valencia. The home victory puts Las Palmas four points away from safety and also away from the bottom of the table. The latter has greater consequences in terms of the psychological mood within the club. Las Palmas have been quite active in this transfer window by bringing in the likes of Gabriel Penalba, Jairo Samperio, Alejandro Galvez, and Nacho Gil. Loic Remy and Jonathan Calleri are the leading scorers at the club with five goals to their name.

Las Palmas Team News

Sergei Samper (ankle), Momo (calf), and Pedro Bigas (knee) are certainly ruled out of the game, while Gabriel Penalba (knee) and Michel Macedo (leg) are rated as doubtful for the game.
