Atletico Madrid vs Getafe Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Atletico Madrid prepare for the first La Liga match of 2017 hoping to shake off the disappointing 1-0 loss against Espanyol before Christmas. A late goal from Sergio Garcia led to Atletico suffering the first league defeat of the season. Getafe ended 2017 in positive fashion after a 2-0 victory over Las Palmas at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. The game was effectively over after the first 15 minutes, as goals from Juan Cala and Amath Ndiaye provided a comprehensive lead for Getafe.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Getafe’s last win over Atletico Madrid happened to arrive in 2011. Since then, Atletico Madrid have met Getafe in nine La Liga games and have been able to claim eight victories. Atletico have been unable to score the first-half of the last four La Liga matches at the Wanda Metropolitano. Getafe’s strong defence is likely to make this a low scoring game. I would back a draw at half-time and a win for Atletico at full-time.

In the last six home games against Getafe, Atletico are yet to concede a goal. It would not be surprising to see another clean sheet from Diego Simeone’s team, as Getafe have been unable to score in the last three away matches in all competitions. Atletico will be without £66 million signing Diego Costa due to an injury and this is likely to extend the club’s goalscoring crisis. I see tremendous value in backing under 2.5 goals in the game.

Draw at half-time/Atletico win at full-time – 5/2

Total goals under 2.5 – 3/4

Atletico Madrid have conceeded only 0 goals in their last 10 games against Getafe

Getafe have not conceded a goal in 70% of their last 10 games played

Atletico Madrid Preview

Atletico’s loss against Espanyol has significantly hurt the club’s slim title hopes, but manager Diego Simeone can look forward to a potent attacking line-up in 2018 with Diego Costa now available for selection. The loss against Espanyol marked the first league defeat of the season for Atletico, and this is unlikely to cause any panic within the setup. The only concern for Simeone so far this season has been the lack of goals from his team. Atletico have scored more than 2.5 goals only once in the last 15 league matches. Antoine Griezmann has only scored five league goals, but it is just one fewer than he managed in the first half of the 2016-17 season. Griezmann’s major run of form last season came in the second half.

Atletico Madrid Team News

Filipe Luis (thigh), Koke (thigh), Diego Costa (leg), and Nicolas Gaitan (discomfort) are the players unavailable for manager Diego Simeone due to injury, while Saul Niguez is suspended due to yellow card accumulation.

Getafe Preview

Getafe continue to enjoy a lofty position in the La Liga table, despite having been among the lowest scorers so far this season. The return of 22 goals from Getafe is least impressive, but the team has been able to sustain this position by virtue of having been strong at the back. The clean sheet against Las Palmas turns out to be the third in the last four matches for Pepe Bordalas and his men. Getafe have the potential to make up significant places over the next few weeks, as three out of their next five La Liga matches are at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Angel Rodriguez leads the scoring charts at the club with six league goals.

Getafe Team News

Markel Bergara (knee) is the only player on the sidelines for manager Pepe Bordalas.
