Atletico Madrid Preview

Atletico Madrid leapfrogged Sevilla into second place in La Liga on Saturday after coming out on top in their meeting with a 2-0 victory. With Diego Costa watching in the stands, Atletico took the lead in the 46th minute after Yannick Carrasco rounded Sergio Rico before coolly slotting home into the gaping net. The prospect of seeing Costa and Antoine Griezmann leading is an extremely appealing one for Atletico supporters and the latter ensured they would come away from this game with all three points after finishing from close range. The three points leaves Diego Simeone’s side four points behind leaders Barcelona in second and sit three points ahead of city rivals Real Madrid after six games. Having won their last three on the bounce in La Liga prior to this contest, confidence should be high amongst the camp as they now embark on their first home Champions League game at the Wanda Metropolitano. Settling into their new surroundings has been no real problem so far, after winning each of their first two games in the 67,000 capacity stadium, both of which have come to nil.

Atletico Madrid Team News

Augusto Fernandez (hamstring) is Atletico’s sole injury doubt ahead of this contest.

Chelsea Preview

Chelsea returned to winning ways in the Premier League in emphatic fashion last weekend after routing Stoke 4-0 at the Bet365 Stadium. With both Arsenal and Manchester United having already dropped points away to the Potters this season, it was important Chelsea got off to a good start and Alvaro Morata’s second-minute effort ensured they were granted that, while Pedro’s ruthless finish made it 2-0 heading into half-time. Morata looked extremely sharp for the Blues once more, proving to be a more than capable replacement for Diego Costa, and he finished well inside the box twice in the closing fifteen minutes to seal a 4-0 victory for the defending Premier League champions. The Qarabag victory on matchday one of the group stages was as routine a win as many anticipated it would be, but this will be the first serious test of Antonio Conte’s tenure at Chelsea in European competition. Having no Champions League last season certainly aided their title push as they look to improve a run of just one win in five away games in this competition. With Morata now making his first return to Spain since leaving Real Madrid, he will see this as a real opportunity to make the desired impact against his former rivals.

Chelsea Team News

Danny Drinkwater (calf) is ruled out for Chelsea, while Thibaut Courtois (head) and David Luiz (broken wrist) will both be assessed late before a decision is made on their involvement.
