Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Athletic Bilbao’s disappointing run continues with the team only managing a 2-2 draw with Deportivo La Coruna. Cuco Ziganda’s team lost a lead twice in the game and ended up picking just a point. Susaeta’s opening goal was cancelled out by Adrian in the 35th minute, while Inaki Williams gave the lead for Bilbao in the second-half. Yet, Fabian Schar was able to equalise for the home team. In the midweek Copa del Rey, Athletic Bilbao lost against lower league Formentera. Real Madrid beat Malaga 3-2 in a surprisingly close game at the Santiago Bernabeu. Goals from Karim Benzema and Casemiro were cancelled out by Diego Rolan and Gonzalo Castro. Yet, Zinedine Zidane’s team came up with a late winner through Ronaldo. Real Madrid beat Fuenlabrada 4-2 on aggregate in the Copa del Rey.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Real Madrid have a strong record against Athletic Bilbao with five wins in six. Their last two away victories over Athletic Bilbao have been with a 2-1 score. There is a greater possibility of this score repeating with Real Madrid averaging two goals in the last six away games and Bilbao only managing five goals in the last six home matches. I would opt for a Real Madrid 2-1 victory. Karim Benzema has a good record against Athletic Bilbao after managing nine goals in 15 games against this team. He has been unable to score only twice in the league meetings since the 2014-15 campaign. After having scored in his last two appearances, Benzema is on a good scoring touch. I would back the Frenchman to score anytime in the game.

Real Madrid 2-1 win – 7/1

Karim Benzema to score anytime – 23/20

Athletic Bilbao Preview

Athletic Bilbao have been unable to get any sort of consistency going into their results. This has left the team just a few places about the bottom three. It is far cry from last season when Athletic Bilbao were challenging for a Europa League spot. Yet, the couple of good results can put the club back into the top 10, as eighth-placed Real Betis are only five points ahead. Aduriz leads the scoring charts at Athletic Bilbao with five for the season.

Athletic Bilbao Team News

Cuco Ziganda is struggling with injuries to Iker Undabarrene (cruciate ligament), Iker Muniain (cruciate ligament), Oscar De Marcos (toe), and Benat Etxebarria (hernia). Kepa Arrizabalaga Revuelta (ankle) is doubtful for the game, while Aymeric Laporte is suspended.

Real Madrid Preview

Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid are still far from being convincing in the league. However, the weekend results helped close the gap on Barcelona down to eight points. Even though it is still a significant lead for the Catalan club, Madrid will be hoping to reduce the deficit further in the coming weeks. Los Blancos have conceded five goals in the last six matches, while Barcelona have conceded the same figure over the course of the season. Isco and Marco Asensio remain the top scorers with four goals each.

Real Madrid Team News

Marco Asensio (hip), Gareth Bale (calf), and Luca Zidane (shoulder) are unavailable for Real Madrid, while Sergio Ramos is doubtful with a broken nose.
