Athletic Bilbao vs Alaves Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Athletic Bilbao were able to extend their unbeaten run to 6 matches after a 2-0 victory over Real Betis. Raul Garcia opened the scoring in the 36th minute after converting from the penalty spot, while Jordi Amat was sent off in the build-up to the penalty. A late own goal from Zouhair Feddal sealed the three points for Bilbao. Deportivo Alaves were able to secure a close 1-0 victory over Malaga. Munir scored the only goal of the game in the 60th minute, as Alaves were able to make use of home advantage once again. In the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-finals, Alaves were able to get a 3-1 win over minnows Formentera.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Even though Athletic Bilbao come into the game with a strong run of results over the last six matches, the team were unable to beat Deportivo Alaves over the two meetings last season. This time around, Alaves carry a poor away form, which has seen them lose three out of the last four. I would back a victory for Bilbao.

This match is expected to produce under 2.5 goals with Bilbao boasting one of the best defences in the Spanish La Liga over the last six matches. Even in terms of overall form, Bilbao have conceded only 19 goals in 17 games. Meanwhile, Alaves have managed less than a goal per game on the road. It makes sense to back under 2.5 goals in this match.

Athletic Bilbao Preview

Athletic Bilbao have been on an excellent run over the last few weeks and it would not be surprising to see the club have their sights on the top-10 places. Bilbao have been let forward by a brilliant defence, which has conceded only one goal in the last five games across all competitions. There have been four clean sheets in this run. This strong defence has helped Bilbao tide over a mediocre attack, which has been heavily dependent on veteran Aduriz for the goals. Just like in the past few years, Aduriz leads the scoring charts at Bilbao with six for the campaign.

Athletic Bilbao Team News

Unai Nunez is the only player suspended for Athletic Bilbao, while Muniain (cruciate ligament), Iker Undabarrene (cruciate ligament), Kepa (foot), and Mikel Balenziaga (thigh) are unavailable due to injuries.

Alaves Preview

Deportivo Alaves have picked up four wins in the last five games, but the club continued to remain in the bottom three – owing to most of these positive results helping compensate for the poor start to the season. For long periods into the new campaign, Alaves were at the bottom end of the table after losing the first six matches. It was not until September that the club was able to pick up the first victory. Now, Alaves have managed three wins in the last four La Liga matches. Ibai Gomez leads the scoring charts at Alaves with four for the campaign.

Alaves Team News

Ruben Duarte is the player on the sidelines due to suspension, while Deportivo Alaves manager Abelardo will also have to do without Hector Hernandez Ortega (knee) and Carlos Martin Vigaray (knee) due to injuries.
