Atalanta vs Everton Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Everton will be looking to get back to winning ways when they travel to the MAPEI Stadium - Citta del Tricolore to take on Atalanta for the opening game of their Europa League group E. Atalanta won 2-1 at home over Sassuolo in the Serie A at the weekend thanks to goals from Andreas Cornelius and Andrea Petagna. On the contrary, Everton suffered a humiliating 0-3 home loss at the hands of Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday, in a game in which they delivered just one shot on target. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Both teams have conceded plenty of goals in the early part of their domestic campaigns, so the Both teams to score market is the standout bet for this clash. Everton have scored at least once in six of their last seven away games across all competitions, while have found the back of the net at least once in 18 of their last 20 home fixtures. Gylfi Sigurdsson to Score Anytime is another good bet for this clash as the former Swansea attacking midfielder managed to get on the scoresheet in style in Everton’s second leg against Hajduk Split in the Europa League play-offs. Here are our best two betting tips for Atalanta v Everton:

Atalanta Preview

Atalanta had an amazing Serie A campaign last term, finishing 4th in the standings behind Juventus, Roma, and SSC Napoli. La Dea started the new season in a negative manner, having suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Roma and SSC Napoli in the opening two rounds. However, they showed some fighting spirit at the weekend as they fought back from one-goal down to secure a 2-1 home victory over Sassuolo. Atalanta’s secret weapon ahead of this clash is definitely their home form as they have been impeccable in front of their own fans over the past year. They have only lost one of their last 19 home games across all competitions and managed to beat the likes of Napoli and Roma along with a draw against Juventus during this run. Regarding their appearances in European competition, Atalanta are returning to Europe for the first time since 1990/91 when they reached the UEFA Cup quarter-finals before losing at the hands of Internazionale Milano. This will be Atalanta’s first game in the Europa League and the first match against English opponents too. Alejandro Gomez has played a vital part in Atalanta’s performance in the Serie A last season, but he hasn’t yet managed to get on the scoresheet this term. He scored 16 goals in 37 league appearances last season, and to get on the scoresheet anytime at odds 6/4 look good value.

Atalanta Team News

Leonardo Spinazzola is out through an ankle injury, while Joao Felipe Schmidt Urbano is a doubt.

Everton Preview

Everton finished seventh in the 2016/17 Premier League table to book their place into the Europa League qualifying. The Toffees managed to beat the likes of Ruzomberok and Hajduk Split in qualifying to reach the group stage of the competition. They looked promising in the opening two rounds of the new Premier League, beating Stoke City 1-0 and drawing 1-1 on the road at Manchester City. However, their recent form in the Premier League has seen them lose back-to-back defeats at the hands of Chelsea and Tottenham, conceding five goals in the process. The Toffees are lacking some firepower at the moment as they have only scored two goals in their opening four games in the Premier League. The main reason for their struggle in front of goal is the departure of their last season’s topscorer Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United this summer, while they only managed to bring in Wayne Rooney as a replacement. The good news is that Everton have made it through all three of their previous UEFA Cup/ Europa League group stage campaigns, most recently in 2014/15. Away from home, Everton have only lost once in their last seven Europa League games while winning three in the process.

Everton Team News

Ross Barkley, Yannick Bolasie and Ramiro Funes Mori are all missing through injury, while James McCarthy is a doubt. The good news is that Seamus Coleman is back in training following his broken leg.
