Aston Villa vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday early evening (17:30) game features two of the Championship top four in live TV action from Villa Park. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Aston Villa made it back-to-back victories as they defeated Sunderland 3-0 at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night. Lewis Grabban, James Chester and an own-goal saw the Midlands outfit ease home and pick up three important points. Wolves were in action on Wednesday night and they got back to winning ways at Elland Road beating Leeds 3-0. Romain Saiss, Willy Boly and Benik Afobe got the goals to extend their gap to six at the top once more. The reverse fixture came in mid-October at Molienux in a game that the Black Country outfit won 2-0 Diogo Jota and Leo Bonatini getting the goals. It means Wolves are now three undefeated in meetings with their Midlands rivals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This is a tough game to call in which you could make arguments that either side represent good value. Aston Villa have been incredibly strong at home recently while Wolves are just incredibly strong. One angle into this game is to take the over 2.5 goals which probably should be the outsider but has been pushed out too much. It is true that both these sides have strong defences but both have attacking talent going forward to get goals. No side has scored more than Villa in the last six with Wolves joint third best on 11. Going over 2.5 goals brings into play both teams to score YES so also look to back this while also consider combining them into a double.

Aston Villa Preview

Back-to-back victories and seven points from their last nine has allowed Villa to keep touch with the top two in the promotion mix. Going into the weekend they sat in fourth place four behind Cardiff in second and ten behind leaders Wolves. At Villa Park, they are unbeaten in their last nine matches coming out on top in four of their last five. The Midlands outfit have bagged 16 goals from their last six in front of their own fans conceding just six times. Lewis Grabban is in good goalscoring form and has netted in each of his last three appearances. Aston Villa have both the best third defensive and attacking records in the division this season.

Aston Villa Team News

Axel Tuanzebe, Alan Hutton, Chris Samba, Andre Green (all hamstring), Gabby Agbonlahor and Jordan Lyden (both ankle) are doubts while Jonathan Kodjia (also ankle) and Jed Steer (dislocated shoulder) are long-term absentees.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

After three games without a victory some Wolves fans were getting nervous but a victory over Leeds in midweek has restored their lead to six points at the top once more. They have a mixed run ahead with three tough road trips although they also have three very winnable looking home ties. Away from Molineux, they have lost just one of their last 11 in the league with this coming at Craven Cottage to red-hot Fulham. They have shipped just 13 times on their travels this season which is a division best. 18 of the 35 Wolves have played have gone under 2.5 goals and 27 of the 35 have gone under 3.5 goals. Wanderers have only been behind three times this season going into the break.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Bright Enobakhare (unknown), Joe Mason (stomach) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (ankle) are doubts. Carl Ikeme is a long-term absentee as he continues his fight against Leukemia. Ruben Neves will return though after suspension.
