Aston Villa vs Norwich City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game from Villa Park sees an Aston Villa side badly in need of points up against a Norwich side looking to keep their momentum going. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. It was another disappointing loss for Villa last time out as they went down 2-1 away to Reading. An 87th minute Conor Hourihane goal was not enough for them to rescue a point as their bad start to the season continued. Norwich got their first win of the league season by seeing off QPR 2-0 with a goal each from Nelson Oliveira and Harrison Reed giving them a first three points for boss Daniel Farke who took over in the summer. The home side has dominated the recent meetings winning each of the last five head-to-heads. One player who will welcome the visit of the Canaries is Gabby Agbonlahor who has four career goals to date against the East Anglians.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Villa look desperate now and I could not take them with any money. The Canaries got a morale boosting win in midweek and although they look a work in progress you sense this is a team pulling in the same direction unlike their opponents here. Norwich to win the game with the safety of the draw no bet looks the way to go. I like Nelson Oliveira to score anytime here as he looks full of confidence and when he tends to score the goals come in batches.

Aston Villa Preview

You get the impression that even this early in the season this represents a must win game for Steve Bruce if he wishes to remain in charge. The club spent a lot of money in January and then followed it up again in the summer with some big wage free-agent deals and yet they have taken just one point from their three league games. At Vila Park, it is just one defeat in nine in the league with the last two ending in draws. A feature of these games in front of their own fans is lack of goals with just two of the previous 11 going over 2.5 goals. Gabby Agbonlahor and Conor Hourihane have one goal each for the season but Bruce could do with big money signing Scott Hogan catching fire with just two goals in 16 games since a big money move from Brentford.

Aston Villa Team News

Villa have forward problems with Jonathan Kodjia (broken ankle) and Scott Hogan (unknown) a doubt while creative midfieder Jack Grealish (hip) is also set to miss out. Also, expected to be missing are Mile Jedinak (groin) and Ahmed Elmohamady (mouth).

Norwich City Preview

The Canaries have been a mixed bag in their first three games as they have defeated QPR, drawn at Fulham but lost at home to Sunderland. They are showing positive signs under boss Daniel Farke with some pleasant football but also, they need more cutting edge to their possession and look vulnerable at the back. On the road, they are unbeaten in their last three with the last two ending in a draw but before that they had won just one of the last 14 on their travels. Both teams to score is a feature of these matches happening in six of their last eight. Four of the goals netted in their league games this season have come in the final 20 minutes as the Canaries play an open game at both ends. Nelson Oliveira has two goals for the season while James Maddison and Mario Vrancic both look due a league goal with consistent shots on target but no goals yet.

Norwich City Team News

Timm Klose (leg) and Alex Pritchard (ankle) are key injuries while squad players Matt Jarvis, Louis Thompson (both hip) and Jamal Lewis (knee) are also missing.
