Aston Villa vs Millwall Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Aston Villa picked up a useful point at Elland Road in their last league games as they battled out a 1-1 draw with Leeds.  The Midlands outfit fell behind after 19 minutes but fought back to claim a share of the points in the 71st minute through a Henri Lansbury goal. Millwall picked up an important three points last time as they saw off high-flying Sheffield United at the Den.  They won the match 3-1 with a goal each from Lee Gregory, Mahlon Romeo and Jake Cooper. The last time these two sides met was in the 2013 FA Cup and in the league, it was way back in the 1989/1990 season so it is hard to reach much into the head-to-heads.  For what it is worth the Lions have won three of their last five battles and lost just once.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Despite their victory at the weekend it is hard to see Millwall getting anything here given their poor road form and Aston Villa being tough home opponents.  Given the Lions struggle to score on the road backing Villa to win the game and NO in the both teams to score market looks a good way to enhance the price. The Midlands outfit have scored exactly two goals in four of their last six in front of their own fans so it might be worth a little play on the correct score market where 2-0 appeals.

Aston Villa Preview

A run of ten points from their last four fixtures means that Villa are now up into fifth and look like one of the sides in the mix for the automatic promotion places. This game is the only of their next seven against a side not currently in the top 14. At Villa Park, their form has been good with five victories and just one defeat (which came against Sheffield Wednesday) in their last six. Each of their last four in front of their own fans and six of their last seven in all competitions have seen exactly two or three goals. Albert Adomah is in good goalscoring form and although he blanked in the last game he still has five in four. Villa have netted at least once in the second-half in each of their last five fixtures.

Aston Villa Team News

Gabby Agbonlahor (calf), Jonathan Kodjia (ankle), Andre Green (hamstring), Mile Jedinak (shoulder), Jordan Lyden (ankle) and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy are doubts.  John Terry (broken toe) and Scott Hogan (stomach) are long-term absentees

Millwall Preview

The Lions got a much-needed victory last time out having gone six matches without a victory prior to this. They sit in 17th place going into this round of fixtures with each of their next four coming against a top-half side. Away from the Den, they have been poor with no victory in their ten games though five of these have finished in draws. Only Birmingham and Burton have scored a lower amount of road goals than the five that they have netted. Just three of their last nine league fixtures have gone over 2.5 goals with five of these going under 1.5 goals.  Both teams to score has happened in just three of their last nine and six of their last 17.

Millwall Team News

Shaun Williams (knee) and Byron Webster (cruciate) continue to be absent.
