Aston Villa vs Leeds United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Sunday afternoon (13:30) fixture is live on Sky Sports and features the league leaders away to one of their main promotion rivals. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Aston Villa stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches at the weekend with a 2-2 draw against Stoke last time out. Jonathan Kodjia and Tammy Abraham (penalty) give them a point that was the least they deserved in a fixture they controlled.

Leeds won their fifth straight game and moved to the top of the table with a 1-0 victory over Bolton. Patrick Bamford got the only goal to give them a marginally deserved victory in a tie low on chances and quality.

These two sides have split their seven previous meetings with two victories each and three ending all-square. Their head-to-heads tend to be low-scoring with each of the last six going under 2.5 goals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This promises to be a cracking game though bookmakers are struggling to split the pair with Aston Villa marginal favourites due to home advantage. The draw seems the most likely match outcome though it is the side markets where the value lies.

27 of a combined 48 matches these two have played have been level going into the break and this looks an angle of attack. I also think this match could have goals and while these seems covered backing both teams to score in the second half still offers some value.

Aston Villa Preview

It is seven without defeat for Villa though each of their last two have finished in score draws (both ending 2-2). Villa sit in eighth place and are two places and three points behind the play-offs.

At Villa Park, they are unbeaten in six though three of these have ended in draws including the last two. Each of their last three at their own ground have gone over 2.5 goals and seen both teams net.

13 of the 22 Aston Villa have played in the Championship this season have been level going into the break. 24 of the 43 goals they have netted have come in the second 45 minutes of a fixture.

Aston Villa Team News

Mile Jedinak (unknown), Jack Grealish (shin), Neil Taylor, Henri Lansbury (both hamstring),  Albert Adomah (ankle), Hepburn-Murphy (knee), Micah Richards (fitness), Birkir Bjarnason,(groin) and Harry McKirdy (dislocated shoulder) are doubts.

Leeds United Preview

United have won their last five and lost just one of the last nine and with Norwich only drawing at the weekend moved back top. They are one point ahead of the Canaries and six points ahead of West Brom in third.

Away from Elland Road, they have won their last two and three of their last four though did go down to defeat to West Brom. The Yorkshire outfit have netted in all their road matches this season.

14 of the 22 Leeds have played this season have been level going into the break and they would be down in 12th on half-time scores. 66% of their goals (24 of 36) have come after the break.

Leeds United Team News

Liam Cooper (knee), Gaetano Berardi (hamstring), Luke Ayling, Izzy Brown (both knee) and Conor Shaughnessy (muscle) are out.
