Aston Villa vs Leeds United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) live SKYTV fixture will have some say on the promotion battle in the Championship.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Aston Villa picked up an important three points in midweek as they registered a 1-0 home victory over Cardiff.  Jack Grealish got the goal in the 85th minute in a game that the Midlands outfit saw more of the ball but the visitors created more scoring chances.

Leeds stretched their winless run to three games as they suffered a 3-1 defeat away to Preston on Tuesday.  They had taken a 13th minute lead through Kemar Roofe but two goals just after half-time turned the match away from them.

The reverse fixture came on the first of December and it ended in a 1-1 draw with Pontus Jansson netting for United and Henri Lansbury for Villa.  It was the second straight game between the sides to finish all-square and five of their last nine meetings have also ended with honours even.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Aston Villa should win this one given how poor Leeds are playing and how strong their home performances have been this season.  The price does not scream value though so you need to look elsewhere for good bets.

It took Villa a while to get going against Cardiff and United are sixth in terms of first 45 minute performances so you might have to wait for the breakthrough.  Take the time of first home team goal to come after 39:00 and the second-half to be their highest scoring 45 minutes.

Aston Villa Preview

Just one defeat and seven points from their last four has kept alive their automatic promotion hopes.  With just four fixtures remaining the Midlands outfit sit five points behind Fulham in second and four behind Cardiff in third who have a match in hand.

At Villa Park, they have won six of their last eight and have lost on just two occasions this season.  They have the joint third best ranked home attack and the joint fourth best home ranked defence.

Jack Grealish is at the heart of most good things Villa do and he has found the back of the net in his last two appearances.  It is now six games without a goal in the first-half for Aston Villa.

Aston Villa Team News

Axel Tuanzebe (unknown), Alan Hutton (thigh), Andre Green (hamstring), Gabby Agbonlahor and Jordan Lyden (both ankle) are doubts while Jed Steer (dislocated shoulder) is a long-term absentee.

Leeds United Preview

The Whites are enduring a miserable end to the season losing five, drawing two and losing just one of their last eight.  They have dropped to 14th though with a seven-point gap to them and 16th that is probably as low as they will fall.

Away from Elland Road, they have been poor of late without a victory in their last nine losing six of these. In each of their last six on their travels they have conceded at least two goals and over the season they have the sixth worst ranked road defence.

Five of the last six Championship games that Leeds have played have seen both teams find the back of the net.  The Yorkshire outfit would be as high as sixth if the table was settled on scores at half-time.

Leeds United Team News

Eunan O’Kane (groin), Adam Forshaw, Matthew Pennington (both calf), Liam Cooper (thigh) and Tyler Roberts (shin) are doubts while Conor Shaughnessy and Luke Ayling (both ankle) are long-term absentees.  Gaetano Beradi will miss the rest of the season through suspension.
