Aston Villa vs Ipswich Town Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture is a clash between two sides in the top ten of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Aston Villa continued their recent good form with a 2-1 victory over Sunderland at Villa Park on Tuesday night. They took all three points thanks to a goal each from Albert Adomah (three in two) and Josh Onomah. Ipswich were on course for all three points but a 90th minute goal allowed Sheffield Wednesday to rescue a point against them. Their goalscorers in that game were Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn (five in his last nine). These two sides met twice in the league last season and it was the Suffolk outfit who came out on top winning 1-0 at Villa Park with the game at Portman Road ending without a goal. The only goalscorer on that occasion was Emyr Huws who could be available here after coming off the bench in midweek following a spell out with injury.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I really rate Villa and think they are among the sides in the mix for second (I think Wolves will run away with the division) but they are an unbackable price here. At these odds, you have to have a small interest on the visitors. Town took four points off Villa last season with probably a weaker team so Mick McCarthy knows how to set up against this side and the draw/Ipswich win is where the value lies. Emyr Huws netted against Villa last season and set up a goal coming off the bench and looks value in the scorer market. I would wait for team-news which impact whether you take him to be first or last goalscorer but certainly you can get involved on him now to net at any time in this fixture.

Ipswich and draw double chance

Emyr Huws anytime goalscorer

Aston Villa have not conceded a goal in 60% of their last 10 games played

Aston Villa have conceeded only 4 goals in their last 8 games against Ipswich Town

Aston Villa Preview

A run of three victories from their last four and just two defeats in ten has moved Villa into the play-off spots and they look like being contenders for automatic promotion. It is possible that all the sides are chasing one spot behind Wolves but the Midlands outfit will have nobody to fear with the talent and depth of their squad. At Villa Park, it is four victories from their last five and four of these games saw both teams score. In all bar one of their last five in front of their own fans they have netted in the opening 40 minutes. Villa have scored exactly two goals in three of their last four and each of their last three has ended 2-1. Three of the last four meetings between these sides at this ground have ended 2-1.

Aston Villa Team News

Gabby Agbonlahor (calf), Jonathan Kodjia (ankle), Andre Green (hamstring) and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy (knee) are closing in on returns. John Terry (broken toe) and Scott Hogan (stomach) are long-term absentees.

Ipswich Town Preview

After a stuttering spell that seemed to suggest they were going to slide down the table Town are back amongst the promotion mix with just one defeat in five. This though represents a tough run of games with their next four against sides above them in the division. Away from Portman Road, it has been a struggle recently with just four points from their last five and three of these came at lowly Burton. Their road matches are entertaining affairs with seven of eight going over 2.5 goals and four going over 3.5. Four of the last five Ipswich fixtures have seen at least one goal netted in the final 15 minutes. Just 27% of their goals have come in the first-half and just 13% in the opening 30 minutes.

Ipswich Town Team News

Tom Adeyemi (hamstring), Luke Hyam and Andre Dozzell (both knee problems) are all set to miss out. Jonas Knudsen will be available for selection though after missing out in midweek through a suspension.
