Aston Villa vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

Aston Villa v Hull City Predictions & Betting Tips

The live Saturday early evening game (17:30) features Aston Villa and Hull two sides with recent Premier League experience. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Both these teams will be expecting to go well this season and make a return to the Premier League. Villa are among the market leaders with bookmakers after a busy recruitment process over the last two transfer windows. Hull are not as fancied by bookmakers but any side coming down from the Premier League commands respect. You have to go back to February 2015 in the Premier League for the last time these two sides met in a game that was won by Hull. Before that though Villa had a good record in meetings between the duo going eight unbeaten.

Betting Tips & Predictions

I try not to read too much into pre-season but the lack of goals from Villa has me concerned enough to overlook them here in the match market. Instead, take a play on the goals market and anticipate a low scoring game. Villa have drawn their last two pre-season games 0-0 and I think an interest on each team keeping a clean sheet looks worthwhile. One of them coming off covers your bets and gives you a little win and the second happening makes you well in profit.

Aston Villa Preview

It was a disappointing season for Aston Villa last time out who would have expected to bounce right back after relegation but only finished in 13th. Steve Bruce is an experienced man at this level with a history of promotions but he must hope that a poor run at the end of last season was just a blip. It has been a busy transfer window with John Terry, Glenn Whelan and Ahmed Elmohamady providing experience to the team. Jordan Veretout, Carlos Sanchez and Nathan Baker are out the exit door but none were really a part of first-team plans. For a side with Jonathan Kodjia, Scott Hogan and creative midfielders like Henri Lansbury, Jack Grealish and Conor Hourihane it is a surprise that Villa scored only 47 league goals last season which was the fourth lowest in the division. They did have the fifth strongest defence and it will be interesting if the signing of Terry strengthens this or not.

Hull City Preview

Despite the best efforts of Marco Silva a poor summer and keeping the faith with Mike Phelan too long caught up with Hull and they were relegated. Leonid Slutsky has taken over and the Russian has not been handed an easy task as he looks to repair not only a damaged squad but damaged links between fans and the board and the club. It has been a rough summer for the Tigers with over a dozen players leaving a squad that was already thin looking. Signing Kevin Stewart from Liverpool and loaning Ola Aina and Michael Hector from Chelsea are promising moves but the club needs to make at least six more signings to balance up the team.A major problem for the Yorkshire outfit last season was their road form winning just one game all season and netting just nine times on their travels. In general, they were entertaining for the neutrals in the Premier League with an average of 3.08 goals per game and 21 of 38 matches going over 2.5.

Hull City Team News

Brian Lenihan (knee), Ryan Mason (skull), Greg Luer (knee) and Will Keane (cruciate) are all unlikely to play any part here.
