Aston Villa vs Fulham Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two of the sides in the top nine with both having hopes of automatic promotion. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Aston Villa will be looking to bounce back after going down to a 2-0 defeat at Wolves in their last game. The result was a fair reflection of the Midlands derby as Wanderers saw more of the ball and created more scoring chances. Fulham fought back from a goal behind in their last match to rescue a point at home to Preston. They were two down after just 25 minutes but a 78th minute Oliver Norwood penalty and a 96th minute Dennis Odoi strike helped them to a point that the shot data suggests was more than deserved. The last time these sides met at Villa Park was last season in a game that was won 1-0 by the Midlands outfit thanks to a Jonathan Kodjia goal. The same player though was sent-off in the tie at Craven Cottage that Fulham won 3-1.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The prices on the match markets look spot on here giving little room for value in the match markets with nothing more than home advantage to separate these two sides in terms of ability and talent. I do though think some value can be had in the half-time market where it makes sense to back Aston Villa. The home side would be top of the league in games decided in 45 minutes while Fulham have conceded four times before the break in their last five. Sticking on a similar theme the Midlands outfit to net in the first-half appeals as around 59% of their goals scored have come in the opening 45 minutes and seven of their 11 netted at Villa Park this season in all competitions.

Aston Villa Preview

Defeat last time out put to an end a run of four straight league victories and eight without defeat. Three of their next four are against teams in the top half of the table and the one that is not is a local derby against Birmingham. At Villa Park, they have won each of their last two and are unbeaten in their six in the league this season. Just two of these six have gone over 2.5 goals with Villa netting just eight themselves and conceding four. Around 59% of the goals they have netted in the league have come in the first-half with 35% in the opening 30 minutes. If the league was decided on just the first 45 minutes then Aston Villa would be top of the table.

Aston Villa Team News

Henri Lansbury (knee) and Jack Grealish (stomach) are back in training while Andre Green (hamstring), Gabby Agbonlahor and Mile Jedinak (both groin) are listed as day-to-day. Neil Taylor continues to miss out through suspension while Rushian Hepburn Murphy (thigh) is still a few weeks from fitness.

Fulham Preview

A draw last time out makes it four without defeat for Fulham and they have picked up eight points from a possible 12 in these games. This has them ninth in the Championship though just one of their next four is against teams in the bottom-half. Away from Craven Cottage, they have looked good with three victories, two draws and one defeat from six. They have won each of their last two on the road and three of four with each of their last three going over 2.5 and seeing both teams score. Each of their last seven in the league has seen both teams find the back of the net with five of these going over 2.5 goals. Just 37% of their goals have come in the first-half with just 12% coming in the opening 30 minutes.

Fulham Team News

Aboubakar Kamara (unknown) is day-to-day while Ryan Fredricks (unknown) is a doubt. Two players unlikely to feature until December at the earliest are Lucas Piazon (broken leg) and Sheyi Ojo (dislocated shoulder).
