Aston Villa vs Cardiff City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) live SKYT fixture features two of the top four sides in the Championship doing battle.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Aston Villa saw their take a knock last time out as they suffered a 3-1 loss at Carrow Road against Norwich.  Jack Grealish got their only goal of the game but despite seeing more of the ball they barely created a chance.

Cardiff also will be looking to bounce back as they lost 1-0 on Friday night at home to top-of-the-table Wolves.  City had a miserable evening with both Gary Madine and Junior Hoilett missing from the penalty spot.

The reverse fixture came early in the season in August and the Bluebirds won that day 3-0 thanks to a Nathaniel Mendez-Laing brace and one from Junior Hoilett.  It means it two successive head-to-head victories for the Welsh side and just one defeat in four.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Aston Villa are favourites for this one given their strong home though Cardiff have lost none of their last six on the road so are no mugs.  I am finding it hard to pick a winner here and the draw seems the most likely result but I will look elsewhere for the value.

Seven of the last nine at Villa Park have seen both teams score while the Bluebirds have netted ten times from their last five on the travels so backing both teams to net here looks a sensible approach.

I talked before about the draw being the most likely result though that would do neither side any favours so both might keep pushing for the win as time goes on so back the second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring half.

YES in the both teams to score market

SECOND 45 minutes to be the highest scoring half

Aston Villa Preview

Just four points from their last five means that automatic promotion is looking too tough for Villa.  They sit in fourth place and probably need a couple more victories to be certain of their play-off place.

At Villa Park, they have lost just one of their last 12 in the league and have won six of their last eight.  Each of their last three and seven of their last nine at their own ground have seen both teams find the back of the net.

In none of their last five Championship fixtures have Aston Villa managed to net in the first-half.  Around 44% of the goals they have scored this season have come in the final 30 minutes of a fixture.

Aston Villa Team News

Alan Hutton (thigh), Chris Samba, Andre Green (both hamstring), Gabby Agbonlahor and Jordan Lyden (both ankle) are doubts while Jed Steer (dislocated shoulder) is a long-term absentee.

Cardiff City Preview

Defeat to Wolves put to an end a 13-match unbeaten run for the Bluebirds and allowed Fulham to close the gap on them.  They are now just two clear of the London side though do crucially have a game in hand.

Away from the Cardiff City Stadium, they are unbeaten in their six-previous winning three of these and drawing the other three.  Kenneth Zohore has netted in two of his last three on the road.

Five of the last six Championship fixtures involving Cardiff have seen both teams find the back of the net.  Around 63% of goals the Welsh side have bagged this season have come in the second-half.

Cardiff City Team News

Jazz Richards (severe bruising), Joe Ralls and Danny Ward (both knee) are all doubts.
