Aston Villa vs Brentford Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game from Villa Park features two sides who have made slow starts to the Championship season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Aston Villa battled out a 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate in their last league match with a draw against Bristol City. They went behind in the 60th minute but levelled up four minutes later through Josh Onomah and that was where the scoring ended. Brentford drew last time out as they were held at their own ground by a visiting Wolves side. It was an even match with the London outfit seeing more of the ball but their Midlands visitors created more clear scoring opportunities. The Bees came out on top from their two meetings last season drawing 1-1 at Villa Park and winning 3-0 at Griffin Park. Lasse Vibe got a brace in that encounter in London while Nico Yennaris grabbed the other one.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I like the look of Nico Yennaris in the goalscorer market who must be due to net soon. He is averaging 2.2 shots on target per game and did score when these two met here last season. Brentford have been struggling for goals but the shots data suggests they are being unlucky rather than not performing. I think the goals might come sooner or later so I would recommend taking their total team goal tally to go over 1.5 here.

Aston Villa Preview

It has been a slow start to the season for a Villa side who were one of the pre-season favourites but have just one victory and two draws from their first five games. Four points from their last two though suggests that Steve Bruce might be finding a system that suits his wealth of talent. Aston Villa are averaging the third most goals produced in the division with an average of 3.2 goals per fixture. Four of the five they have played so far have produced exactly two or three goals. At the transfer deadline, Aston Villa were quiet with the completion of a loan deal for Robert Snodgrass their final move after several additions to the squad in the two previous windows. The former Hull and West Ham man should provide some decent crossing and set-pieces to their forwards and large centre-backs.

Aston Villa Team News

Mile Jedinak (groin) and Chris Samba (knee) are doubts while Jack Grealish (hip) is out until the New Year. Jonathan Kodjia (broken ankle) and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy (thigh) are missing for at least another month.

Brentford Preview

It has been a tough start for Brentford with two draws and three defeats from their five games. The shots on target data though suggests they are not getting the breaks and this was a similar story for Fulham last season and that turned eventually. The Bees have struggled for goals this season with just five in five fixtures while at the other end the nine they have shipped is joint third highest. This means that they are averaging 2.8 goals per fixture with three of five going over 2.5. Brentford fans are up in arms about a poor transfer window that saw them sell off three players to Birmingham in Jota, Harlee Dean and Maxime Colin while not moving to replace them. The London outfit did sign well in the summer though and feel they have the pieces in place to accommodate these losses.

Brentford Team News

Lasse Vibe (foot) is a doubt while Lewis Macleod is out with a cruciate issue.
