Arsenal vs Newcastle United Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Arsenal welcome Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with both sides looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League. Arsenal only managed a nil-nil draw on the road at West Ham last time out, despite the fact they had an overwhelming 70% ball possession and 22 goalscoring attempts. On the other hand, Newcastle lost 0-1 at home at the hands of Everton last weekend, with Rafa Benitez’s men conceding the goal just before the half-hour mark. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview. Feel free to visit our Bet of the day page to check our best daily tips.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Arsenal should be able to get back to winning ways here, as despite their struggle away from home, they still hold an excellent record at the Emirates this season. Furthermore, Newcastle are winless in six league trips at the moment, conceding at least two goals in four of these. Arsenal have won the last five home meetings with Newcastle, having scored at least two goals in four of these.

Arsenal Preview

Arsenal’s inconsistency throughout this Premier League campaign continued last weekend as they were held to a goalless away draw at West Ham. They are now on a three-game winless streak in the Premier League since a thrashing 5-0 home win over Huddersfield towards the end of November. This leaves the Gunners 7th in the Premier League table with 30 points after 17 rounds, already 19 points adrift of the current leaders Manchester City. Actually, Arsenal are closer to the drop zone than they are to Manchester City. Arsene Wenger’s men have been a strong side at the Emirates Stadium this season, as prior to their 1-3 loss against Manchester United they were on a seven-game winning streak. However, away from home, Arsenal have only won two of their nine league trips so far this season, while losing four. The positive thing is that Arsenal are now back on home soil, where they have won the last five home meetings with Newcastle, scoring at least two goals in four of these. The summer signing Alexandre Lacazette has been Arsenal’s most dangerous player in front of goal so far this season, as he is leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 8 goals under his belt.

Arsenal Team News

Aaron Ramsey and Santiago Cazorla are both missing through injury, while Shkodran Mustafi is a doubt.

Newcastle United Preview

On the contrary, Newcastle started the season in a bright manner, but their recent form has been terrible. They have only won once in their last 12 league outings and head into this clash on the back of an eight-game winless streak. This leaves the Magpies in 16th spot in the Premier League table, just one point clear off the drop zone. Rafa Benitez’s main issue throughout this Premier League campaign has been their inefficient attack, as they have only managed 16 goals in 17 league outings. Dwight Gayle and Joselu have been Newcastle’s most dangerous players in front of goal so far this season, having scored three goals each. Newcastle’s away form this season has also let them down, as they have only won once in eight league trips. The Magpies are currently on a six-game winless streak in the Premier League on the road, conceding at least two goals in four of these. Furthermore, Newcastle have suffered defeats in their last five visits to the Emirates Stadium since a 0-1 victory back in November 2010. That was Newcastle’s sole victory over Arsenal over the past nine years.

Newcastle United Team News

Jonjo Shelvey is missing through suspension, but Massadio Haidara is back in training.
