Arsenal vs Manchester United Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Arsenal welcome Manchester United to the Emirates Stadium on 02/12/17 in the latest installment from the Arsene Wenger-Jose Mourinho rivalry. Arsenal cruised to a 5-0 win over Huddersfield in midweek, with Man United winning 4-2 away to Watford. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Jose Mourinho’s approach to these kind of games has become extremely predictable in recent times. Arsenal have been playing well at home this season, but I’m expecting United to come away with a result.

Arsenal Preview

Manchester United made up for an unconvincing victory over Brighton with a more credible 4-2 win away to Watford on Tuesday night. Ashley Young opened the scoring from the edge of the box, before the 32-year-old doubled their lead with an outstanding free-kick. Anthony Martial made it 3-0 before half-time as they looked to make up for their poor attacking play at the weekend, though efforts from Troy Deeney and Abdoulaye Doucoure in the second half did leave them slightly nervous late on. However, Jesse Lingard scored to ensure United would come away with all three points and momentarily close the gap between themselves and City to just five points. Moruinho’s men have now won four of their last five games in the Premier League, with Chelsea being the only side to beat them in that time, though their performance levels are still someway off that of Manchester City. Striker Romelu Lukaku now has just one goal in his previous 11 matches in all competitions and will likely see his place in the side come under threat in the coming weeks, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning to fitness. Mourinho is still yet to win a game away from home against any of the Premier League’s ‘big six’ as United boss, losing four and drawing three and would love to break that duck against nobody more than Wenger.

Arsenal Team News

Eric Bailly (groin) is a doubt, although Phil Jones (thigh) could return. Michael Carrick (heart problems) is unlikely to return this weekend.

Manchester United Preview

Despite some nervous moments, Arsenal eventually ran out emphatic winners over Huddersfield at the weekend, winning 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium. Alexandre Lacazette opened the scoring after just three minutes, though they had to wait until midway through the second half to score again, as Mesut Ozil assisted two goals in two minutes for Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez. Ozil then got himself on the scoresheet shortly after, before Giroud netted the fifth in the closing minutes. Arsene Wenger’s men are really beginning to gain some momentum in the Premier League, winning five of their last six games and could move to within a point of United if they are able to take three points from them this weekend. What will increase confidence amongst the Arsenal ranks is the fact that they went unbeaten in their two meetings with United last season, drawing at Old Trafford and winning at the Emirates, while they have tasted defeat in just one of their last six meetings in all competitions. We have seen two different sides of Arsenal in big games this season, one which saw them overwhelm Tottenham in a 2-0 victory, while the other resulted in a 4-0 thrashing from Liverpool at Anfield and the bipolar nature of this team still makes it difficult to predict what sort of performance we can expect from them.

Manchester United Team News

Santi Cazorla (achilles) will be missing once again for Arsenal after undergoing yet another operation. Alex Iwobi (leg) is a doubt, but Theo Walcott (illness) should be available.
