Arsenal vs Leicester City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Arsenal face Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on 11/08/17 in the opening game of the 2016/17 Premier League season. The hosts will be hoping they can build on last weekend’s Community Shield victory by laying down an early marker in front of their title rivals, while the away side will have a shock in mind. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Arsenal v Leicester City Betting Tips and Predictions

With no previous competitive fixtures to fall back on, it’s difficult to tell what sort of outfit these respective sides will come to be this season. Arsenal have bossed this fixture in recent years, winning each of the previous ten consecutive meetings with the Foxes at home, including a 1-0 victory in April and I’m expecting this result to go the way of the home side. Arsenal Preview

Whilst hardly a significant indicator for what the season ahead shall hold, Arsenal certainly would’ve left Wembley feeling better about themselves after defeating Chelsea in the Community Shield on penalties. Sead Kolasinac cancelled out Victor Moses’ opener in normal time, as it was the Gunners who ultimately held their nerve in the shootout. Arsene Wenger - much to the discontent of a number of fans - signed a new two-year contract at the end of last season and getting off to a strong start this time around will be imperative if he wants to keep the fans onside. Arsenal have lost in each of their last two opening day fixtures, both of which have come at the Emirates, while they have managed just one victory on the opening day since 2010. The Gunners’ first three away trips of the season sees them face Stoke, Liverpool and Chelsea, meaning they will be keen to get as many points on the board as possible in the early weeks of the campaign.

Arsenal Team News

Gabriel (knee), Francis Coquelin (ankle) and Santi Cazorla (achilles) are all missing. Per Mertesacker (head), Aaron Ramsey (calf) and Mesut Ozil (ankle) will be assessed this week. Alexis Sanchez should be available to feature in the squad.

Leicester City Preview

After last season’s Champions League whirlwind, normal service shall be resumed to a certain extent for the 2016 Premier League champions who once again become an unknown quantity in the division. It was hardly a successful pre-season for the Foxes, who won just two of their seven friendlies, most recently beating Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 at the King Power Stadium. Arsenal has been an unhappy hunting ground for the Foxes in the Premier League, having lost their previous ten consecutive trips to the Gunners in the league. Craig Shakespeare impressed as Leicester boss after replacing Claudio Ranieri in controversial style, but this will be a real test of his metal as he enters his first full season as a Premier League manager. Now that the new manager bounce has gone, can he still motivate his players to the same effect as last season?

Leicester City Team News

Robert Huth (ankle) is missing so Harry Maguire should make his debut at the heart of the Leicester defence. Nampalys Mendy (ankle), Danny Drinkwater (thigh), Islam Slimani (leg) and Kelechi Iheanacho (ankle) will be hoping to shake off knocks to feature.
