Arsenal vs Leicester City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Arsenal host Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on 26/04/17 as the hosts look to build on a huge result from the weekend. Arsenal beat Manchester City 2-1 in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, booking themselves a place in the final where they will face Chelsea. Leicester will be looking to bounce back after being eliminated from the Champions League in their last outing, losing 2-1 on aggregate to Atletico Madrid. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Arsenal’s confidence will be at a real high for recent months following their win at Wembley at the weekend. Leicester are probably one victory away from absolutely confirming their place in the Premier League for next season and have more winnable games to come, with a home win my tip for this one.

Arsenal Preview

Arsenal’s switch to a back three continues to pay off after they overcame Manchester City at Wembley, winning 2-1 after extra time to book their place in the final of the FA Cup. Arsene Wenger’s side have so often been lamented for a lack of character but they responded well here after Sergio Aguero dinked the ball past Petr Cech when put clean through by Yaya Toure. However, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain crossed for Nacho Monreal to convert at the far post as Arsenal sent the game into extra-time. During the additional period, Alexis Sanchez pounced on a scuffed Danny Welbeck effort to send Arsenal into their third FA Cup final in four years. Given the optimism and expectation of progress at the Emirates the summer prior to this season, an FA Cup alone likely won’t suffice for the club’s supporters, but, should Arsenal win their games in hand, they will have a real chance of getting into the top four, also. With two wins from two since tinkering with their formation, Arsenal will now look to win for the first time in front of their home supporters when sporting a back three. With just one defeat in their last fourteen home Premier League matches and two home losses all season, they have been relatively strong at home, with it being their away form which has let them down, especially in recent weeks.

Leicester Preview

Leicester have enjoyed a week’s rest in between this and their previous fixture and will be hoping to end the domestic campaign on a high after exiting the Champions League at the hands of Atletico Madrid. Coming into the second leg with a 1-0 deficit, their challenge was increased significantly when Filipe Luis’ cross was met with a terrific header from Saul to give the Spaniards a crucial away goal. Although Jamie Vardy pulled one back in the second half, Atletico’s experience and nous at this level ultimately told when it was all said and done as they held firm and denied Leicester the chance to make for a nervy ending by making in 2-1 on the night. It proved to be the final chapter of what has been a remarkable couple of seasons for Leicester, who are currently six points clear of the relegation zone with two games in hand on the sides currently trapped in the bottom three. They come into this meeting at the Emirates without a win in their last four matches in all competitions, with it difficult to begrudge their domestic attention being swayed by the bright lights of the Champions League. Leicester have still won just one away game in the Premier League all season from sixteen matches - the same amount of victories they managed in five road games in the Champions League.
